Gabriele Muccino Set to Shoot Road Movie ‘Summertime’ With Up-and-Coming Cast (Exclusive)

Rome — Italian director with Hollywood credentials Gabriele Muccino (“The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Seven Pounds”) is set to shoot “Summertime,” an ensemble coming-of-age/road movie set in Rome, San Francisco, New Orleans and Cuba “about four youths in that unique unrepeatable formative phase after high school, before college, during which they crack the shell of adolescence,” he said.

For the four main roles in this mostly English-language pic, Muccino has cast Matilda Lutz, the emerging Italian actress who will play the lead in the next chapter in the “Ring” franchise; locally hot Italian TV actor Brando Pacitto (“Braccialetti Rossi”); and young U.S. actors Joseph Haro (“Glee,” “Welcome to the Family”) and Taylor Frey (“Gossip Girl,” G.B.F.).

Sky To Give Italo TV Drama ‘1992’ Multi-territory Launch Following Its Berlin Bow

Rome — Rupert Murdoch’s recently merged pan-European Sky pay-tv operation will segue its multiterritory launch of high-profile U.K. drama “Fortitude” with “1992,” the Italian skein about Italy’s watershed Clean Hands corruption probe, which has been picked up by Sky U.K. and Sky Deutschland.

“1992” is now set for simultaneous airing on March 24 on Sky Italia, Sky U.K., Sky Ireland, Sky Deutschland and Sky Austria, in a major coup for the Italian TV industry.

Produced by expanding Rome shigle Wildside, the 10-episode series revolving around six ordinary people whose lives are intertwined with the political and societal earthquake that swept away Italy’s post-war political establishment, will world-preem at the Berlin Film Festival on February 9, kicking off the fest’s new Berlinale Special section dedicated to TV drama series.

The series is being sold internationally by Germany’s Beta Film.
