Kinky Boots (2005) Poster

Jump to: Spoilers (1)
Inspired by the true story of a traditional English men's footwear factory in Northamptonshire which turned to production of kinky boots for transvestites in order to save the ailing family business and safeguard the jobs of the local community.
Broadway producer Daryl Roth loved Kinky Boots so much she helped turn it into a Broadway musical, with music by Cyndi Lauper. The show is running in the US, and will soon be on London's West End.
The Shoe Fair depicted actually exists and it's called MICAM, it's not situated in the centre of Milan, obviously, but in the exhibition complex in the outskirts of the city.
There are two glimpses of The Boot's "Arm Wrestling Champion Board" during the scene with Don (played by Nick Frost) and Lola (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor). During the longer shot at 1:05:55, you can see the records from 1993 to 1999, which include names of many people involved in British film production, including "Kinky Boots"' own Matt Gallagher (production assistant), John Miles (production accountant), and Dan Budd (first assistant accountant).

The trivia item below may give away important plot points.

When Joel Edgerton (Charlie) tries to save face by doing the catwalk show, sans pants, he is wearing not 1, but, 2 pairs of briefs, an outer - boxer - pair, and underneath (for... 'support'), a pair of y-fronts. This is typical in many films, which show men in underwear, as the bright lights used tend to make a single pair translucent, and also to help... 'tone down' any 'accidental maleness', which can arise, or, peak out (does, naturally) occur.
