“The Witness for the Prosecution,” adapted from Christie’s 23-page short story of the same title, will be directed by Julian Jarrold (“Kinky Boots,” “The Girl”) and produced by Colin Wratten (“The Musketeers,” “One of Us”).

A+E Networks holds international distribution rights, outside the U.K. and the U.S., and will launch the show at TV market Mipcom in October.

Why Cyndi Lauper Took Her Unusual Detour to Country

6 May 2016 5:40 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Back in 1990, Cyndi Lauper was working with alt-country singer k.d. lang, when lang noticed a little something unexpected in the vocal stylings of the pop icon. "Oooh, there's a little country in you," lang told her at the time. And, says Lauper, "I knew she was right!" Maybe it took an iconoclast like lang to detect the twang in the girl from Queens, New York, but for Lauper it was never far from the surface. Though she became inextricably linked to the flame-haired, pop punk persona on her 1983 debut, She's So Unusual, the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun »

Broadway's Secret Weapon

Drew Hodges is at a loss for words. Asked if he’s surprised at the life he’s leading -- did he imagine he’d grow up to fly around the world orchestrating scenes with great actors and artists for his own wildly influential agency -- he pauses three entire seconds. “I wish I had an answer for you,” he says. “It's like, Come for the veal, stay for the floor show.”

You might not know Drew Hodges’ name, but if you’ve enjoyed some form of popular culture in the past decade, you’re living in a world he helped create. "When I started, the idea of theater was still very much that ‘fabulous invalid’ thing," he says, “sort of dying, old, kind of nostalgic. I was lucky enough to work on a lot of stuff that started to chip away at that."

Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein to Star in NBC’s ‘Hairspray Live’

25 April 2016 10:15 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein have signed on to NBC’s "Hairspray Live!,” the network’s next live Broadway musical.

Hudson will play Motormouth Maybelle, while Fierstein will play Edna Turnblad, the role he won a Tony for in the stage version. He will also write the teleplay.

“We are beyond thrilled with this incredibly talented duo of stars for 'Hairspray Live!,’” said NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt. “Harvey Fierstein created the role of Edna Turnblad on Broadway in an indelible Tony-winning performance that demanded to be memorialized on film, and we’re happy he wanted to step into her shoes one last, unforgettable time. We’re also so grateful that the incomparable Jennifer Hudson will play Motormouth Maybelle and we know her rendition of ‘I Know Where I’ve Been’ will literally stop the show.”

Based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, “Hairspray Live!” takes place in 1962 Baltimore. Teenager »
