Watch it for cinematography, dialog and two good performances
26 June 2006 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

This is a Spanish film noir set in pre-Castro's Cuba in the fifties. As a genre film it really plays it's cards well. The cinematography and production design is impeccable. You really feel like you're in that period and you can almost sweat from the heat coming off the screen.

The story is pretty standard: a guy comes out from jail to search the woman who betrayed him and finds himself involved int the business of her corrupt senator husband.

The acting by Fernandez as the noir romantic antihero and Perrugorria as the senator, is impeccable. Ariadna Gil, however feels a little lost, and her character and her love story with Fernández are underwritten. The ending lacks a little punch too, but it's a movie worth seeing, for it's virtues far surpass it's weaknesses.
