It's still got it

Warning: Spoilers
I grew up watching this and I have to say I still enjoy it to this day. Tom and Jerry are up to their old schtick which ends off leading them to Mars where they come across martians who take Jerry to their kingdom thinking he's an alien (how ironic). Jerry ends up falling in love with one of them named Peeps (Katherine Fiore). Personally, I think they're a cute couple. I really love the scene where Peeps saves Jerry then showers him with kisses afterwards. That was adorable.

If you like Tom and Jerry then you'll like this. Kids will most definitely like it.

Stays true to original spirit

I just saw this movie and I thought it did a great job of staying true to the original shorts. Tom and Jerry never once speak during this film and I think that's a great thing. It also contains the same hilarious chase sequences we've come to all know and love. Billy West provides some priceless one-liners as the voice of Major Biff Buzzard, and even Brad Garrett makes an effort as Commander Bristle. The animation is surprisingly smooth and slick, and you can tell the animators have great love for the originals. Sure, some parts of the story can be a bit cliché, but if you love Tom and Jerry you can't go wrong with this one.

Disturbing

Warning: Spoilers
I grew up in the '50s with Tom and Jerry as an occasional treat, and have loved them ever since and in the last few years have seen and enjoyed quite a few of them. A few days ago I began to watch _Tom and Jerry Blast Off to Mars_ and I'm sorry to say I can't give a full review because I found myself unwilling to watch beyond the third segment.

My first reaction was that the external view of the parts of the house bouncing into the air as Tom chased Jerry inside it was odd and unsubtle (I know, can slapstick be subtle?) and uncharacteristic of their style.

Second reaction was (as another reviewer has said) that the second scene was formulaic, boring, overcrowded and not executed well (though I did enjoy the imaging of the flames on the stove burners).

I was starting to feel a a bit of unease about the movie, and the third scene (involving a riding mower) suddenly crystallized it: this may sound odd, but the violence had a vicious character that seemed ugly and a bit disturbing and felt as though the makers were taking the easy way out instead of putting in the effort to make it both over the top and tongue in cheek. Tom and Jerry don't actually hate each other, there's a certain gentlemanliness between them; they go to bed happy at night thinking up how to outwit each other the next day -- and they don't grind each other up with heavy machinery. I don't feel as though I'm being very articulate about this, but it's the best I can do.

Another great Tom & Jerry Film
Young_PSC29 March 2005
just saw this film on a special cartoon network screening and once again the legendary cat and mouse do not disappoint.

This comes after their last motion picture, entitled The magic ring back in 2002. In my opinion I thought that was one of the best action/animation films I've seen, and its a shame it only made it on to video. But this latest installment goes one better. The producers make sure they don't take away that true spirit that Tom & Jerry have carried for so long. There are some hilarious scenes and the usual frantic chases which makes the film complete.

All in all I loved this film, it has everything and its a joy to watch. I hope they continue to make solid films with these 2 for years to come. Don't miss it! 9/10

Entertaining film, that keeps true to the spirit of the original show.
TheLittleSongbird31 August 2009
This was very entertaining, and not as bad as the rating suggests. The animation is surprisingly smooth and colourful, and the music is excellent and very fitting with the action. Tom and Jerry are their usual likable selves, and don't speak like they did in the rather disappointing Tom and Jerry: The Movie, and I will say the opening scene indeed was hilarious. Their antics are pretty close to the original show too, and that was wonderful to see. The plot isn't the best in terms of construction, but it still works, though the obvious title holds no surprises. In fact, my only real complaint is that the film is too short, but other than that, it is hugely enjoyable, and i am sure kids will love it. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Good Climax!

This movie begins off in a nice way, gets kinda boring in the middle with all the astronaut stuff, but then again turns awesome during the action-packed climax.

I liked the blonde astronaut dudes as they were funny, and I also loved the epic battle in the climax scene.

In the Beginning...
teenmedia2 April 2005
I saw this film yesterday this morning, and let me tell you, the opening scene was just hilarious! The living room was my favorite part, because of all those ancient artifacts inside. In my opinion, that's my idea of a living room. Too bad our favorite "friend-and-foe-alike" twosome let their antics make such an exquisite room go to waste! The kitchen part, however, was too commonplace. It's the same old iron-board, sink-full-of-dishes, flaming-oven-burners gag, etc., etc., etc.... at least I'm glad there's no lady of the house to give Tom a piece of her mind, no matter how we see her, be it full-body OR from the waist down.
