Irrfan Khan is one of India’s most visible film exports, striking a balance between the glitter of Bollywood and Hollywood. He’s starred in such Indian pics as mistaken-identity romancer “The Lunchbox,” cultural drama “The Namesake” and, most recently, alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, in road movie “Piku” — which has scored more than 1 billion rupees ($15.6 million) worldwide, and counting. And he’s well known to U.S. audiences for roles in films that include “Life of Pi,” “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “Slumdog Millionaire.”

His next Hollywood projects are also high-profile: “Jurassic Park” sequel “Jurassic World” (which rolls out globally June 10) and Ron Howard’s mystery thriller “Inferno,” based on the novel by Dan Brown, with Tom Hanks reprising the role of Robert Langdon from “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels & Demons,” slated for an October 2016 release.

Irrfan Khan Thanks International Audience for ‘Piku’ Success!

Right from The Namesake, Irrfan Khan’s journey as an Indian international star has been unstoppable and has only progressed pillar to pillar. Each one of his international films has won both commercial and critical acclaim and the actor soared to new heights.

His film The Lunchbox put Irrfan Khan on the global map and opened up a whole new section of audience to new age Indian films, especially for those who would otherwise not watch Bollywood films.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s Shakespearean Trilogy to be showcased at next week’s New York Indian Film Festival

The New York Indian Film Festival (Nyiff), which opens next week on May 4th, will showcase a series of special screenings of Vishal Bhardwaj’s brilliant Shakespeare Trilogy Maqbool, Omkara, and Haider. If that wasn’t cool enough, after each screening there will be a discussion with Bhardwaj, who will not only talk about the film but take the audience on journey of his career in Hindi film and music.

The first of the trilogy Maqbool (2003), starring Irfan Khan, Tabu, Pankaj Kapoor, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah was based on Macbeth, while 2006’s Omkara, based on Othello, starred Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Bipasha Basu, Naseeruddin Shah then there was his latest film, Haider, his version of Hamlet, that starred Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon, Irfan Khan. I was longing to do a romantic film, says Irrfan Khan

He has played the good guy and the bad guy, but it’s not often that you get to see Irrfan Khan play a romantic lead in a film. But the actor has surprised everyone with Piku and he is glad that director Shoojit Sircar offered him the romantic role opposite Deepika Padukone as their love story is made up of endearing moments and gestures.

Irrfan Khan: 'I spend more than what I earn in Hollywood'

Irrfan Khan says that he often spends more money than what he earns when working in Hollywood film projects.

The Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire star said that it is the type of characters he gets to play in Us cinema which is the real reward.

Khan told Hindustan Times: "Whatever I earn in Hollywood gets finished there itself. A number of times, you end up spending extra from your own pocket, but I do it since I know I won't get opportunities to play such nuanced roles anywhere else."

The 48-year-old also spoke about the trend of Indian actors name dropping Hollywood projects to sound more successful in their home market.

"There might be a few actors - in need of some news - who use these roles as a gimmick," he said.

"The collaboration is growing. I feel that now, we will see a lot of people working abroad. »
