Nancy's father is a nut on lodge work. He is High Goatee of the Ancient Order of Goats and has made up his mind that no one but a Goat shall marry his daughter. Walter is in love with Nancy. Bill also wants to marry her but when he overhears her father tell Walter that he must be a goat to marry her, Bill decides he will spoil Walter's chance of passing the initiation. Bill and his gang rent an office next door to the lodge-rooms of the Goats and switching. Walter gets into the wrong office, and thinking he is in the real lodge rooms, promise to obey the orders of the High Goatee. They dress him in a small boy's outfit and order him to ask every policeman he sees for his mamma. If he is arrested he will fail to pass. Walter is horrified to find that Nancy had seen him in his silly clothes and he races back to the club rooms. But they are not through with him. In the next room is the real Order of Goats with Nancy's father presiding, waiting for the appearance of the novice. Walter is having a hard time for the rival has had him blindfolded and is coaxing him out on the ledge of the window. Nancy's father discovers him and tries to get him back in their lodge rooms and a real tug of war sets in with Walter finally falling off the ledge. He lands on an awning of the floor below and climbs up a ladder to the room of the real Goats, where he finds Nancy waiting for him. She hugs him affectionately and says she thinks he is now eligible to become a member of the Goats. Father, however, brings out a goat and insists that Walter ride him.
