Michigan was chosen to film this movie by director Shawn Levy because he was blown away by the Model T Automobile plant in Highland Park near Detroit. He felt it was the perfect set for the first fight scene called Crash Palace in the film. No other location he visited in New Mexico, Los Angeles, or Georgia came close. See more »

Throughout the film, Atom's shadow function switches back and forth between mirror and mimic for no apparent reason or command from Charlie or Max. It appears to have no difference except that it is apparent the shadow function goes mirror as the robot and the person are face to face and mimic when the robot is observing the human who's not looking at him. I wasn't expecting much when I saw this movie - and I'm not really a fan of movies where kid's are the lead - but, I was pleasantly surprised with this one.
Even though this was a "formula / underdog" type of movie, it had me cheering for Atom, Hugh Jackman was great and so were the cast of characters.
The CGI was excellent, I really connected to the characters, and it was just a fun, guilty-pleasure (c'mon, boxing robots - who DOESN'T want that !) type of movie.
Not quite "A Space Odyssey:2000" but then again, it's not supposed to be.
FUN. ENTERTAINING. GREAT ACTION.
