Learn More About The Cult Classic
12 November 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Back To Somewhere in Time" is a documentary that is included in the special features of the newly released 20th anniversary edition DVD of the cult classic,"Somewhere In Time".It has interviews from its cast like Christopher Reeve,Jane Seymour,Christopher Plummer and the other supporting cast together with Richard Matheson, the author of the novel "Bid Time Return" where the movie was based from, the composer John Barry, the producer Stephen Deutsch, and director Jeannot Szwarc. They all recollect their experiences making this movie and the legacy it has had to its fans since its theatrical release twenty years after.

The interviews were definitely fun and entertaining as fans get to know more about the making of the movie like the casting, the locations used particularly the Grand Hotel wherein most of the story of the movie takes place, the inspiration of John Barry for its haunting musical score which apparently was taken from the death of his parents, and how the movie achieved its status as a cult classic despite of being a box office flop during its theatrical release.More information was also given into how the story came to be especially with reference of a novel that the author Richard Matheson has had after falling head over heals with a portrait of a stage actress during the 1920's in Maude Adams during his stay at a hotel in San Diego. Overall,it is one good and informative documentary for a fan of the cult classic who wants more knowledge about the film.
