Ali Larter To Star In Horror Flick ‘The Diabolical’

20 December 2013 7:01 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Ali Larter (Resident Evil: ExtinctionFinal Destination) has signed on to star in the feature directorial debut of Alistair Legrand- a supernatural horror film called The Diabolical. Legrand is a veteran of music videos and commercials and is known for his strong, visual style. He also co-wrote the film.

The movie will center on Larter’s character, “a single mother who with her children is awoken nightly by an increasingly strange and intense presence. She seeks help from her scientist boyfriend Nikolai, who begins a hunt to destroy the violet spirit that paranormal experts are too frightened to take on.” (Synopsis courtesy of Deadline)

This isn’t Larter’s first foray into horror, as she starred in Final Destination- which gave way to a series of sequels. She can currently be seen on TNT’s Legends, and was last seen on the big screen in Resident Evil: Afterlife back »

Creepy Casting: “Highlander” Fancast

16 December 2013 5:02 PM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

For a movie who’s most famous tag line is “there can be only one,” there are sure a ton of Highlander sequels, TV spinoffs (live action and animated), novels, comic books, and reboots. But that should come as no surprise; this is Hollywood, and the immortal Scottish swordsman epic is one of the most indelible franchises of the past 30 years.

The original Highlander arrived in 1986, and is easily the most hallowed of all Highlander properties, featuring the holy triumvirate of genre stars: Christopher Lambert (NCIS: La, Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan, Lord Of The Apes, Mortal Kombat), Sean Connery (The James Bond, Dr. Jones, The Rock, The Untouchables, The Hunt For Red October), and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, ER, Flubber, Pet Sematary II, John Dies At The End, and ubiquitous voice actor). The hit spawned Highlander 2: The Quickening (1991), a TV show starring Adrian Paul that »

Shout! Factory Unveils 20th Anniversary Edition of The Shadow

9 December 2013 4:17 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

The Shadow, the template for most of comic books’ mystery men, captured America’s imagination in radio and pulp magazines for decades. His paperback revival in the 1960s and 1970s (the latter with spectacular covers from Steranko) led to his brilliant portrayal by Denny O’Neil and Michael William Kaluta in the short-lived DC Comics adaptation. Currently, he’s cutting down the weed of crime for Dynamite Entertainment but this overlooked gem of a film is worth a look. Here are the official details:

Blockbuster Video Compilation Exhibits All That's Right (and Wrong) with Today's Big Budget Movies

31 July 2013 8:57 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Using 99 different movies from the works of directors such as Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder, Joss Whedon, Michael Bay, the Wachowskis, Neill Blomkamp, James Cameron, Danny Boyle, Guillermo del Toro and even Darren Aronofsky and Terrence Malick, video director Vadzim Khudabets (official site) delivers the following 6:10 minute compilation of "epic" moments from a slew of recent movies (all listed below the video) for a video titled "Eterna". I'm featuring it here for two reasons; 1.) because it's very well done and 2.) I think it highlights the issues I have with today's blockbuster cinema. The first point is self-explanatory, but to the second point just watching this reminds me of every problem I have with so many of today's big budget spectacle features from the fact they are more style and size over substance and, like the video, overstay their welcome. Paul W.S. Anderson Directing ‘Resident Evil 6′

13 March 2013 7:34 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The subtitling of Paul W. S. Anderson’s Resident Evil franchise can be a little difficult to keep track of (though not as difficult as the game series, where a numbered installment only comes along once in a blue moon), so a quick recap might be useful before discussing the latest news regarding Resident Evil 6. The film series has so far been roughly divided into two trilogies, the first consisting of Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction, with the saga continuing in Resident Evil: Afterlife and Resident Evil: Retribution. At this point, we probably need a mnemonic by which to remember all the subtitles.

Despite having confirmation of the release date for Resident Evil 6 back in , it was not yet certain whether Anderson would choose to direct ...

ABC’s “Gothica” Finds Dorian Gray, Victor Frankenstein, And Grace Van Helsing

28 February 2013 12:26 PM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

With Hannibal, The Munsters, Sleepy Hollow, Penny Dreadful, The Following, and another season of American Horror Story coming to TV, it’s a wonderful time to be a horror TV fan. Add ABC’s Gothica to the mix.

Not to be messed up with the crappy Halle Berry movie Gothika, Gothica features a stable of our favorite literary horror characters, from Dorian Gray to Victor Frankenstein, Dracula, and others. It’s moving faster than Penny Dreadful, a similar sounding project at Showtime, and has found its Dorian Gray, Victor Frankenstein and “Grace” Van Helsing.

Chris Egan has been cast as Dorian Gray. The Aussie has appeared in Poe, Letters To Juliet, Kings, Resident Evil: Extinction, and Eragon.

Tom Ellis will be Victor Frankenstein. Ellis is a veteran of BBC TV, with The Fades, Gates, and a slew of others under his belt.

Premiere Date and More for Teen Wolf Season 3

26 February 2013 3:15 PM, PST | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Teen Wolf is back on our radar, and you know what that means: it’s time for me to once again start harassing those of you who have not yet given the show a try, and once again tell you that it has really nothing to do with the 1980s Michael J. Fox movie, beyond a couple of the names and the fact that the main character is a high school student who becomes a werewolf.

It’s actually on my very limited A list, because the cast chemistry is out of the park, the stories are twisty, and the pace is fast. Plus, everyone is gorgeous, in a but-they-don’t-flaunt-it sort of way. It isn’t whiny at all, and is a perfect summer watch. Okay, maybe this will help some of you:

How about now? And yes, the girls are just as charmingly attractive. Here’s the latest »
