With Christmas only a few days away, this week’s home entertainment releases are indeed a bit light but that doesn’t mean fans won’t have a few titles to look forward to. Several SyFy series are making their way onto Blu-ray and DVD, Lionsgate is also releasing the latest After Dark Original film, Sanatorium, and we’ve got an indie thriller and action flick from Universal to look forward to as well.

One of my fondest memories growing up as a young horrorphile was catching as many scary movies and fright-filled specials as I could during the month of October in order to prepare for Halloween night. With the hundreds of channel options out there for viewers these days, I thought it might be fun to break down where genre fans can catch various movies, specials and even Halloween-themed cartoons over the next 31 days so that you can start planning out your viewings in advance.
Here are some of the thrills and chills coming to your televisions this October. Please keep in mind that full schedules have not been announced everywhere yet, so we’ll be sure to update you guys with any additions to the calendar. All times listed are Et/Pt:

For over a decade Screen Gems has been cashing in with their Resident Evil film franchise. The first film in the series, 2002's Resident Evil, pulled $102M and then the sequels: 2004's Resident Evil: Apocalypse did $129.3M, 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction did $147M, Resident Evil: Afterlife did a best $296.2M and Resident Evil: Retribution did second best with $240M. They cleared some hefty profits as they were given surprisingly modest budgets for films that relied heavily on complex action sequences and CGI. It is one of the few video game-to-film adaptations that has actually been successful. So, it is quite surprising that Paul W.S. SyFy have unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming angelic battle series 'Dominion'. The show which airs later this month is based upon director Scott Stewart's 2010 fantasy horror 'Legion' which starred Paul Bettany as the Archangel Michael who heads to Earth to help save humanity from a forthcoming army of angels sent to destroy the human race. 'Dominion' stars Christopher Egan ('Resident Evil: Extinction'), Roxanne McKee ('Game of Thrones'), Alan Dale ('Lost'), Tom Wisdom, Anthony Stewart Head ('Buffy the Vampire Slayer') and Rosalind Halstead. Countryfile came out on top in the ratings on a quiet Sunday, according to overnight data.
The BBC One nature series brought in 5.5 million (29.3%) at 7pm, followed by Antiques Roadshow with 5.0m (23.2%) at 8pm.
Drama Quirke continued with 3.7m (17.5%) at 9pm.
On ITV, Catchphrase puzzled 4.1m (21.5%) at 7pm (179,000/0.8% on +1). Michael Flatley's Night To Remember special entertained 3.4m (15.8%) at 8pm (192k/0.8%), followed by Bond movie Quantum of Solace with 1.9m (11.9%) at 9.30pm (154k/1.6%).
BBC Two's I Bought a Rainforest appealed to 1.6m (7.3%) at 8pm. Britain's Greatest Pilots intrigued 1.5m (6.7%) at 9pm, while D-Day: The Last Heroes brought in 1.2m (7.2%) at 10pm.
Channel 4's For the Love of Cars gathered 1.4m (6.6%) at 8pm (211k/0.9%), while Fargo's latest episode was seen by 1.2m (5.3%) at 9pm (182k/1.1%).

Heading to SyFy next month is the new small screen series 'Dominion' which picks up the supernatural themes of Scott Stewart's 2010 fantasy horror 'Legion', which starred Paul Bettany. The action takes places 25 years following the events of the film and follows Alex Lannen, a rebellious young soldier, and who can be seen battling with an angel on this new cool teaser one-sheet provided by Entertainmennt Weekly.
