Storyline

Powdered hair and patches, minuets and billets-doux, terminating in a duel and the regulation happy ending, are the chief elements in this film, which is one of the daintiest ever published. One of the most important personages in the story is the painter of the miniature who is of ducal rank. His model is a lady who looks as if she has just stepped out of a Wattean painting, and the intimacy engendered by the sittings results in the Duke falling in love. When the miniature is finished it is stolen by a jealous rival, who tells the Duke that it has been given to him by the original of the portrait as a love gauge. The Duke, in a white heat of passion, declares the statement to be a lie and challenges his rival to a duel. His challenge is accepted, and, at the appointed time both men stand face to face. Before commencing however, the stealer of the miniature admits that he purloined it and throws it at the feet of the Duke, who picks it up and places it within his coat. In the course ...
