He said: 'I would love to do something with Peter Berg. I was a big fan of him in 'Friday Night Lights' and I like his movie, 'The Kingdom'. Freakishly Clever: A Tim Burton Profile (Part 4)

Trevor Hogg profiles the career of filmmaker Tim Burton in the fourth of a four part feature... read part one, two and three.

Life intersected with art when Tim Burton chose to make a cinematic adaptation of Big Fish by novelist Daniel Wallace; Edward Bloom (Albert Finney) lies on his death bed recounting his youthful adventures to his estranged son William (Billy Crudup). “My father had been ill for a while,” confided the filmmaker, “I tried to get in touch with him, to have, like in this film, some sort of resolution, but it was impossible.” Not all was lost for Burton. “I went back to thinking about my father, and as bad a relationship as I had, early on it was quite magical…It’s important to remember that. I forgot that for too long.” The director added, “I think it’s a thing where everybody loses a parent and, »

First trailer for Brad Pitt's World War Z

11 November 2012 5:28 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Paramount Pictures has finally released the first full trailer for World War Z, the much anticipated zombie thriller starring Brad Pitt (Fight Club). The film is based on a hugely popular 2006 novel written by Max Brooks (son of Mel Brooks) and gives a first person account of a zombie war that ravages the world.

World War Z has been surrounded by drama and controversy since the announcement that the novel was being turned into a feature film, with Brad Pitt's production company Plan B securing the rights to the film, only after winning a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way company.

J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Changeling) was the first screenwriter on the project and developed the first draft of the script but was then replaced by Matt Carnahan (The Kingdom, State of Play); however reports suggested that the final act of the film had to be »

World War Z with Brad Pitt eyed as a Potential Trilogy

9 November 2012 12:40 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Starring Brad Pitt in the lead, World War Z is being touted as the most expensive zombie film in Hollywood history, and after the epic first trailer landed last night, it’s promising to be one of the biggest and best films of next year.

Based on the original novel by Max Brooks, we heard back in June that Damon Lindelof (Prometheus) had been hired to re-write the third act ahead of seven weeks of re-shoots. The job ultimately fell to the great Drew Goddard (Cloverfield), and EW are reporting that part of that re-write involved setting the film up as a possible trilogy in the years to come. (Interestingly, they credit Lindelof for the rewrite, but he didn’t have time, and it was his Lost partner, Goddard, who penned it in his place.)

Brad Pitt faces the zombie apocalypse in first World War Z trailer

9 November 2012 7:09 AM, PST | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

The first trailer for Brad Pitt’s zombie apocalypse movie World War Z has hit the web. Directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), the big budget flick has the Lane family, led by Un fact-finder Gerry (Pitt) running for their lives from the oncoming crush of zombies. It’s a race against time for Gerry in his attempt to stop the zombie pandemic as it spreads across the globe, toppling governments, armies, and humanity in its wake.

Loosely based on the acclaimed book by Max Brooks, the film also stars Mireille Enos (TV’s “The Killing), Matthew Fox and David Morse. “Lost” scribe Damon Lindelof, the man behind this year’s Prometheus, wrote the screenplay along with Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom). If anyone knows how to write an edge-of-your-seat action-packed script, it's those guys. The thrilling trailer definitely gets the heart pumping as zombies flood the world’s major metropolises. »

Starring Brad Pitt in the lead, World War Z is almost guaranteed to be one of the biggest films of 2013. We caught an amazing sneak peek at the trailer earlier today, with the full trailer arriving on Thursday, and it looked rather incredible.

With the trailer set to kick off what promises to be an excellent marketing campaign in the next few months, the film’s official website has launched, and with it comes the first teaser poster for the film. Tom Cruise Really Likes Sci-Fi, Eyes Another One In 'Our Name Is Adam'

17 October 2012 6:21 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Maybe that whole Xenu thing isn't sci-fi enough for him? Either way, Tom Cruise has really been digging the sci-fi genre of late. Earlier this year he wrapped on Joseph Kosinski's upcoming "Oblivion," this fall he's shooting "All You Need Is Kill" with Doug Liman, and now another script is keeping Cruise up at night with a flashlight under the covers. Variety reports that Cruise is circling something called "Our Name Is Adam," a script penned by T.S. Nowlin who recently made some waves when his "Agent 13" got Rupert Wyatt and Charlize Theron attached. And that's about it other than the tidbit that producer Mary Parent ("Pacific Rim," "The Kingdom") is also on board. But as usual, the caveat here is that Cruise tends to have a number of projects in the works, and likes to give himself lots of options, so it's just as likely that he won't do this. »

Morning 5: Gunn for 'Guardians of the Galaxy', Watanabe for 'Unforgiven' Remake and Sam Jackson Joins 'Oldboy'

1.) James Gunn (Super, Slither) has emerged as Marvel Studios' top choice to direct Guardians of the Galaxy. The studio is said to like his Whedon-esque ability to mix comedy with action and horror and are now exclusively talking with the director, after also considering Peyton Reed (The Break-Up, Yes Man) and the team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson, It's Kind of a Funny Story). No matter who gets the gig, what's important here is that the studio continues to favor emerging talents who specialize in character over spectacle. They seem to recognize that a large part of what made The Avengers so successful was the way the characters interacted with one another. Marvel has set an August 1, 2014 release date for the film. NBC’s ‘Stars Earn Stripes:’ Star-Spangled Sh*t

16 August 2012 11:55 AM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

On Sunday, hours after the Summer Olympics officially came to a close in London, NBC aired their pre-ceremony montage of the Games’ medal-winning moments. Michael Phelps’ final race. The Fierce Five. Misty and Kerri’s volleyball three-peat. The women’s soccer team. Triumphs that brought Americans together, albeit briefly, to cheer and chant “U.S.A! USA! USA!” as champions proudly draped themselves in the stars and stripes. It was a moving sight to see athletes achieving their dream and basking in the patriotic power of the national anthem.

Then the Games were over and the Olympic torch was extinguished. On Twitter, where NBC has taken its lumps these past two weeks, New Yorker writer Andy Borowitz quipped, “The goal of the Olympics is to inspire us about what humans can achieve, and the goal of the closing ceremony is to return us to reality.” The past 16 days may have »

“Ya Wouldn’t Bloody Like Me When I’m Angry, Mate” – Eric Bana’s Weird Career Progression

Australian of many hats (and presumably berets, gloves, scarves and other assorted fineries) Eric Bana, is close to signing on to star in Lone Survivor. The Peter Berg-directed flick based on the events of Seal Team 10’s “Operation Red Wing,”  where the Navy SEALs were ambushed while on a covert assassination mission in Afghanistan in 2005. Bana is to round out a cast that already includes Marky Mark (Wahlberg), Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch, and Taylor Kitsch in the role of “Taylor Kitsch is acting.” Peter Berg will also be handling the screenplay duties on this one, adapting the book of the same name that was penned by Marcus Luttrell. Complex – and my pants’ – favourite, Mark Wahlberg is set to play Luttrell, the member of the expedition who wrote the book about his experiences upon which Lone Survivor is based. No telling at this stage who the ‘lone survivor’ of the title is going to be. »
