Martial Law Declared in Action-Packed New TV Spots for World War Z with Brad Pitt

23 May 2013 6:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

With Brad Pitt front and centre for the zombie blockbuster, there’s no way that I’m not seeing World War Z when it hits the cinema. The film promises to be a zombie movie quite unlike any we’ve seen before, going for the huge scope that’s relatively unknown to the typically lower-budgeted genre.

I’ve been hugely impressed by all that we’ve seen from the film so far, and its June release date can’t come fast enough in my books. And with that date fast approaching, Paramount have released two action-packed new TV spots, giving us another great look at some of the explosive sequences in the movie.

United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

14 May 2013 7:56 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It was announced today that Tron: Legacy and On The Road actor Garrett Hedlund will be joining Toby Kebbell, Riz Ahmed and Margot Robbie for Violent Talent. The film tells the story of a group of friends who try and build a criminal empire in modern Chicago. The film will also see screenwriter Matthew Michael Carnahan finally make his directorial debut after penning the screenplays for World War Z and The Kingdom.

Hedlund has become a dark horse to watch out for recently, his latest project Inside Llewyn Davis is up for competition at Cannes, making it the second year in a row where a film he has had a role in has made an appearance at the festival. We’ll have to keep an eye on this one…

Garrett Hedlund Finds Violent Talent

13 May 2013 12:43 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Matthew Michael Carnahan, who wrote The Kingdom, State Of Play and worked extensively on the upcoming World War Z, is making the jump to the director’s chair for Violent Talent. He’s now recruited Tron Legacy’s Garrett Hedlund, Four LionsRiz Ahmed, RocknRolla’s Toby Kebbell and Vigilante’s Margot Robbie to lead the cast.Carnahan, as you might expect, has also written the script for the drama, which finds the male trio as three old friends looking to build a criminal empire in Chicago, which to them seems to be the best way to make it in life. Robbie will be a woman who Hedlund becomes involved with.Naturally, their rise to power will not be easy, but other details about the plot are being kept under wraps for now. Given that Cannes is about to kick off, you won’t be shocked to learn that the »

New Images of Brad Pitt in World War Z

13 May 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Paramount have already been having a strong year at the box office so far, most recently debuting Star Trek Into Darkness in UK cinemas ahead of the blockbuster’s release in the Us this Friday. And with Abrams’ blockbuster all but guaranteed success, eyes will soon start turning to the next film on the studio’s slate: World War Z.

Brad Pitt is front and centre of the zombie blockbuster, and it’s been some time since we’ve seen him take on a role like this. If you ask me, its June 21st release date can’t come fast enough.

The latest trailer hit back in March, giving us an even better look at what promises to be one of the best movies of the summer. And now two new images have surfaced online, showing Pitt alongside his on-screen family.

Is Brad Pitt making the biggest disaster of all time?

3 May 2013 8:17 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The negative hype surrounding Brad Pitt's zombie epic World War Z is getting worse all the time, with news of rewrites, reshoots and a budget that has ballooned above $400m

Anyone who has read Max Brooks's grippingly detailed science fiction novel – or even better, listened to the superb audiobook – will probably have a pretty good idea what kind of movie Brad Pitt originally envisaged when he bought the screen rights to World War Z in 2007. Delivered as a series of oral histories straight from the lips of survivors of the zombie apocalypse, the book presents a steady, nagging creep of horrifying reportage from across the world. It's like a set of zombie-infested episodes from Radio Four's From Our Own Correspondent, or Studs Terkel's vivid and entrancing An Oral History of World War Two rewritten by George A Romero.

Dubai Film Bizzer Tim Smythe Dead at 54

1 May 2013 9:20 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The United Arab Emirates film community is mourning the death of Tim Smythe, who was known in Hollywood as the Dubai go-to guy for pics including “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Syriana,” and “The Kingdom.”

Smythe, who had moved from South Africa to Dubai where he set up his Filmworks company in 1998, died April 16 following a battle with cancer. He was 54.

Besides being instrumental to luring Hollywood shoots to the UAE, Smythe also played a crucial role in building the local industry. He produced the first Emirati feature, F. Mostafa’s Dubai-set romancer “City of Light,” a local hit which held its own against yank blockbusters at the home box office.

Smythe is survived by his wife Julie and three daughters, Kaya, Maya and Livia. »

The ‘Gears of War’ Turn Once Again Toward a Movie

30 April 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Wow. A Gears of War movie. Another attempt at making the popular video game franchise into a popular movie franchise. According to Variety, Scott Stuber is now the latest person to attempt developing a script with Epic Games, but it’s hard not to be a little cynical about the entire process. Stuber is an interesting element in all of this — a producer who’s worked with Safe HouseTedThe Kingdom and Couples Retreat, he seems to vacillate between high concept action and comedies, and he also has a ton on his plate currently. If he can find a way to make this a priority, and a thousand other things fall into place, this could finally happen, but it’s also telling that our website design has changed three times since the first rumbling of a Gears of War movie surfaced. It happened almost immediately when the game became a hit in 2006, and by 2007, New Line »

7 Incredibly Sinister Character Actors

20 April 2013 1:29 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

To be labelled a ‘character actor’ is something of a double-edged sword. For while it acknowledges you’ve found a niche, it also implies a certain comfort at being typecast; a familiarity in filling the same shoes again and again. And while some will forever coast on a breakthrough role, others will snatch their chance to cement their place in cinema. The list below is comprised exclusively of the latter category. They stand in the shadows, swooping in to steal the scene. Far from relying on the scraps and scripts that fall from the top table, these are the very people for whom ‘difficult’ roles are written. They are the wild cards, the secret weapons; and these seven names in our rogues gallery, having honed their craft to perfection in playing the damaged, devious and downright disturbing, are clearly enjoying themselves in the process.

New TV Spot for World War Z with Brad Pitt – ‘Getting Out’

10 April 2013 8:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Led by the ever-brilliant Brad Pitt, World War Z promises to be one of the year’s best blockbusters.

Outside of the Resident Evil franchise, it’s the first big-budget zombie movie we’ve seen in some time. And having recently debuted an awesome new trailer last month, followed by a great IMAX poster, the anticipation is definitely on the rise for its summer release.

United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

Starring alongside Pitt will be Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Lucy Aharish, Matthew Fox, Bryan Cranston, Abigail Hargrove, Sterling Jerins, and David Morse.

Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) is behind the camera, directing from a script by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom), based on the original novel by Max Brooks, with Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) doing re-writes for the re-shoots. »

Iron Man Strangely Absent from Wwz Trailer

30 March 2013 5:58 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Wwz 'new' trailer in high definition: Pitt pitted against flesh-eating bacteria of sorts -- but where on earth is Iron Man when you most need him? Marc Forster's World War Z, the convoluted production starring screen icon Brad Pitt fighting off a deadly zombie army, has a brand new trailer. Well, maybe not so brand new after all. The Wwz trailer no. 2 (please scroll down to check it out) was dropped several days ago. (Pictured above: Pitt apparently fleeing from a zombie attack in Wwz.) Anyhow ... let's go for what's important: What are the lessons found in the not-all-that-brand-new trailer? Lesson no. 1 is clearly that the happiness and well-being of all-American families is appallingly fragile. Look out there (on on your television set) and you'll discover that there are always alien enemies eager to annihilate the private bliss of Americans. Lesson no. 2: The world is coming to an »

Versus: Old Jason Bateman Vs. Young Jason Bateman

6 February 2013 1:00 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Young Jason Bateman was born on January 14, 1969, and soon thereafter arrived on the scene as a child actor in "Little House on the Prairie" in the early '80s. He went on to star in other relatively nondescript TV movies and shows before ultimately landing the role of Michael Bluth, the everyman trapped by the absurdity of his ridiculous family in Fox's (now Netflix's) cherished "Arrested Development."

Old Jason Bateman was also born on January 14, 1969 and, after starring on Fox's (now Netflix's) cherished "Arrested Development" as Michael Bluth, the everyman trapped by the absurdity of his ridiculous family, went on to star in such big budget productions as "Hancock," "The Kingdom," "Horrible Bosses" and, now, "Identity Thief."

Today, the two actors square off in our version of a steel cage death match: a comedic compare/contrast blog post based on inane categories where a winner is completely predetermined but only »
