Storyline

Haley Graham is a former gymnast-turned-juvenile delinquent who, after one too many run-ins with the law, is forced to enroll at an elite gymnastics academy, the VGA in Houston, Texas which is run by the legendary Olympic gymnast Burt Vickerman. But the rebellious Haley is not welcomed into the academy by the other teenage gymnasts who despise her for walking out on her Junior Olympic team years earlier during a competition which cost them the gold medal. But Haley is not a docile person either and makes every effort to provoke conflicts with the other girls. Vickerman takes it upon himself to coach Haley in his own way to make her regain her self respect for the VGA's coming spot on the Gymnastic Nationals. Written by Anonymous

Trivia

One of the gymnasts asks "Who died and named you Nadia?" This is a reference to gymnast Nadia Comaneci who later appears as herself in the film. See more »

Goofs

When Haley scratches on vault, Anthem Part Two by Blink 182 starts playing. The word "f*ck" is not silenced the first time the chorus is played, but in the second verse and second chorus, it is silenced. (This is because the movie is rated PG-13, and the MPAA permits only one use of a sexually-derived expletive before the rating must be changed to R.) See more »

Quotes

Haley Graham: Can you believe this? Did you see it?
Poot: Yeah, I saw it. Are you... totally covered in soda, or what?
Haley Graham: Oh, yeah, great. Thank you.
Frank: I'm so pissed at that kid. We were totally gonna throw drinks on you. I feel so upstaged.
Poot: I mean, what? They think they can just hate on you like that?
Frank: I know! Dude, who do they think they are?
Poot: They're fakers, that's who. I can't stand fake Haley-haters!
Frank: It's a bloody outrage, I tell ya!
Poot: [Yelling] We hate Haley more, people, so *get in line*!
Haley Graham: Would you shut up?

This Film Had HEART
29 April 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This was a wonderful film with lots of heart. The other people in the audience that I saw it with clapped at the end just like I did. How many films are there about the world of gymnastics? It was original, and the kids were a lot of fun. The writer-director also wrote BRING IT ON, another wonderful film, tighter script -but not as much heart.

The cast was good; the lead can act and her two guy buddies played it well. Jeff Bridges is always fun. I suppose if I had to make one criticism it would be that the first half moved a little slow and some of the camera work was uneven: focus was soft in places, and sometimes the composition was neither here nor there. But I recommend this film.
