When shooting in Shaniko, Oregon the cast and crew were left with no choice but to spend the night in the town hall, which was being remodelled. In the middle of the night they decided to get a hotel in Madras instead, which is where they shot several scenes for the film.
Actor Jordan DeNoce wore a red wig and learned how to play guitar for the part of James P. Cotton.
