Safety Not Guaranteed… Radius-twc Lands Patrick Brice’s “Creep” & Makes Two More Scary Movies

  • ioncinema
Sort of what Dimension Films represented back in the heyday of Miramax era, Tom Quinn and Jason Janego are proving that RADiUS-twc is a smart pick-up, fully fledged label that is in it for the long-term and a partnership with Jason Blum is a nice dice roll. Radius, the Duplass Bros. and Blumhouse Prods. are teaming on not one film, but a trilogy of films surrounding the recently SXSW preemed Creep by helmer Patrick Brice. A theatrical release is expected at the end of the year and look for this to hit fantasy fests in the summer.

Gist: Low on cash and full of naiveté he drives to a cabin in a remote mountain town where he meets Josef (Duplass), his cinematic subject for the day. Josef is sincere and the project seems heartfelt, so Aaron begins to film. But as the day goes on, it becomes clear that Josef

"American Horror Story: Asylum" recap: "Show me your mossy bank" (2.2)

Tags: American Horror StoryAmerican Horror Story: AsylumIMDbJessica LangeSarah PaulsonChloe Sevigny

Welcome back to Briarcliff for episode two, where the skirts and the body count rise, and we begin to tease out a few themes from the madness. Last season was a free-for-all of terror, both natural and super, but this time around the show seems to be focusing most of its energy on character development and themes of social justice. We’ve got Kit and Alma and their interracial marriage, Wendy and Lana battling homophobia, and Sister Jude and her love-hate relationship with “the patriarchal male” (her words). While I tentatively applaud Ryan Murphy and company for taking on some meaty issues (other than the actual meat Mary Eunice feeds to the monsters), I know that watching a Murphy show is a little like keeping Bloodyface as a pet: love him, if you will, for his piercing blue eyes and skill with a bone-saw,

"The Elephant in the Living Room," Reviewed

  • IFC
Nothing makes a better documentary subject than crazy. Whether they're about socialite shut-ins or deranged cult leaders or just some guy who decides to eat nothing but fast food for a month, documentaries are a great home for the insane. Best of all is when a documentary invites us inside the madness to experience it for ourselves, then forces to reconsider whether that perspective is really all that crazy after all. "The Elephant in the Living Room," about the danger, and also the appeal, of keeping wild animals as pets, is such a documentary.

Generally, I'm of the opinion that anyone who willingly keeps a deadly animal in their home is kind of nuts. And if said animal escapes and kills them, that's not a tragedy; that's fodder for The Darwin Awards. But sometimes these animals get loose and harm others, and that is a tragedy, one that's happening with

Hellraiser Has A New Pinhead

Hellraiser Has A New Pinhead
As previously reported, Dimension Films recently made the surprise announcement that, after years of trying to set up a remake, a ninth film in the original Hellraiser series was in production. Now Bloody Disgusting have unearthed the scoop that Hellraiser: Revelations has cast a new Pinhead. It's Stephan Smith Collins. Nope, us neither. He had a small role in The Darwin Awards with David Arquette a few years ago, and his CV also includes films called Where's My Stuff? and Come Fly With Me Nude.Doug Bradley was reportedly not at all interested in reprising his signature iconic role (from the Clive Barker original and seven times subsequently) as the creepily elegant, somewhat pierced leader of the demon cenobites, and after Hellworld, you can see why. Revelations, on a tight schedule and an even tighter budget, seems to be in production largely to stop Dimension's hold on the Hellraiser rights from lapsing.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Bill Monroe’s Biopic

  • Filmofilia
So, back in June, we all had a chance to hear a rumor about Peter Sarsgaard’s possible involvement in a Bill Monroe’s biopic, written by Callie Khouri.

Today, we’re here to report that Sarsgaard’s wife and Maggie Gyllenhaal (Nanny McPhee Returns, Crazy Heart, Away We Go, The Dark Knight) will be the part of the upcoming project as well.

Maggie Gyllenhaal described her role this way:

Bill Monroe, who invented bluegrass music, had a kind of Sid and Nancy style affair with this woman Bessie Lee Mauldin throughout his life and T-Bone Burnett’s going to do the music and Callie Khouri – who wrote Thelma & Louise – wrote the script so we’re going to do that together.”

Not bad at all! Especially with that Oscar winning team on board, and Finn Taylor (The Darwin Awards) in charge for directing the whole thing!

For all Gyllenhaal fans out there,

Maggie Gyllenhaal to Star in Bill Monroe Biopic with Peter Sarsgaard

  • Collider.com
While working the press rounds for Nanny McPhee Returns, Maggie Gyllenhaal revealed that she would star alongside husband Peter Sarsgaard in a biopic of musician Bill Monroe. She described her role in the film,

Bill Monroe, who invented bluegrass music had a kind of Sid and Nancy style affair with this woman Bessie Lee Mauldin throughout his life and T-Bone Burnett’s going to do the music and Callie Khouri — who wrote Thelma & Louise — wrote the script so we’re going to do that together.” [Screen Crave]

Sounds like an interesting project, and it’s worth noting that both names Ms. Gyllenhaal mentioned are Oscar winners; Finn Taylor (The Darwin Awards) is on board as director. Following her appearance in the Nanny McPhee sequel, Gyllenhaal will next be seen Hysteria, in which she has an “unexpected love affair” with the man who accidentally invents the vibrator. Hmm.

Sarsgaard Looks Into Bluegrass Roots

Peter Sarsgaard is set to star in a biopic of famed bluegrass musician Bill Monroe according to The Wrap.

Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys band pioneered the genre in a career that spanned six decades and nearly twenty albums. The film is expected to follow the mold of Johnnie Cash biopic "Walk The Line" and Finn Taylor ("Cherish," "The Darwin Awards") will direct.

Sarsgaard has brought Callie Khouri ("Thelma And Louise") onto the independently-financed production to re-write an early script draft. The pair's other halves, musician T. Bone Burnett and actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, both worked on "Crazy Heart" and Burnett may be involved in a similar capacity here.
