This one was quite an enjoyable zombie effort. One of its main features is the fact of this one really going all out to include the customs and traditions of the titular holiday which is quite unusual for a zombie movie. Filled with miniature dolls, skeleton ornaments and general decorations that generally evoke the holiday and themes found there so there's a really overwhelming sense of traditional culture and unique that's not often found in the genre which is highly impressive. This rather unique take in the genre comes into play when it comes to the more traditional zombie action featured here as this one manages to make good use of the swarming hordes alongside this unique atmosphere as the zombies dressed in ponchos and decorative garb all gathered together in large swarms attacking the others which features some decent action. There's some good fun to be had here in the attack on the group in the cantina where the sacrifice is interrupted as well as the main sequence involving their escape attempt getting to the car and their battle to hold off the swarm just to safely get away which is so fun for the extended length of the sequence, while the finale also manages some good fun as their revenge comes full circle to finish this one off. These here are more than enough to hold this one off against the flaws as there's a few big ones in here, mainly the film's rather bland first half that rarely features anything of any real interest. The shifts through time to the different periods of activity there seem designed more to get the co-stars on-screen than anything to do for the story, the full back-story here is told in several occasions when it really had no need to and the biggest factor overall against this one is the incredibly long amount of time it takes before something happens here as the second group of friends don't arrive until the forty-five minute mark which means it holds off the action until that point and fills the first half with a lot of utterly lame scenes that simply eat up time until then. That tends to cut down on the zombie action as well, reducing them to a few fun if scatted attack which doesn't help the pacing here and knocks this one down somewhat against the positives.
