Storyline

Some old houses have secrets. Dark secrets that bleed into the very soul of its foundations. For young Isobel and her Grandmother, they discover through the course of one eerie night, that some secrets weren't meant to be unraveled. Isobel, whose seems to have an uncanny bond with whatever spirits inhabit their old mansion, learns that even the very place they call home will do anything to tear their love apart. Some secrets weren't meant to be revealed. Not by little girls. So sweet... so innocent... Little girls don't even know when or where to run. That's what they're counting on. They're coming...and they're taking... Written by Matthew Eskandari

Suspenseful, stylish horror film
13 December 2005 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"The Taking" is one of the best horror shorts to come out in awhile. It's chilling, with a haunting atmosphere that loomed over everything from beginning to end. It has a few moments that will make you jump and works itself up, so by the end of the movie you feel scared, and chilly from inside out, but emotionally fulfilled. The score is emotionally spellbinding and the cinematography rich and evocative. It's reminiscent of works by Spielberg and Hitchcock. I only wish it was more widely released on the festival circuit...I saw it in Los Angeles at a special screening of Shorts from USC. I look forward to seeing more work from these talented young filmmakers!
