Joyriding late one night Chris Pratt (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the local high-school hockey star crashes his car, cutting his athletic career short and leaving him mentally challenged to the extent that he is reduced to working a menial job as a janitor in the local bank. His apartment mate Lewis (Jeff Daniels) is someone equally challenged by way of blindness incurred from his involvement with drugs. When Chris is approached by a friendly ex-schoolmate Gary Spargo (Matthew Goode) the challenged ex-hockey star feels as if he may be a step closer to re-integrating himself back into his local social scene. When a beautiful girl Luvlee Lemons (Isla Fisher) connects with Chris, and they share an intimacy everything feels good. At a Thanksgiving dinner Chris realizes that Gary is in cahoots with a group of other locals who are planning to rob the local bank, and have worked Chris into their plans as the one who will let them in to insure the alarm doesn't get tripped. Gary sufficiently convinces Chris that he deserves the money from the bank to get his life back but on the night of the event Chris changes his mind and thwarts the criminals getting the money. Gary and his crew kidnap Lewis to negotiate for the bank loot and Chris must muster all his mental and physical reserve to protect the important things in his life.
