Liam Neeson Talks A Walk Among The Tombstones, Collaborating with Scott Frank, and More

21 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Opening this weekend is director Scott Frank‘s crime thriller A Walk Among the Tombstones.  The film stars Liam Neeson as a troubled ex-cop who investigates the kidnapping of a heroin drug lord’s wife, teaming up with a heroin trafficker (Dan Stevens) and his brother to hunt down the men responsible for the crime.  Unlike his Taken role where Neeson is nearly impossible to pin down, A Walk Among the Tombstones takes place in the real world, where the characters need to use their brains and not rely on an endless supply of bullets to get the job done.  Frank has a number of great credits as a screenwriter (Minority ReportOut of Sight), and he did great work directing The Lookout.  I'm happy to say I really enjoyed A Walk Among the Tombstones and definitely recommend checking it out this weekend. Review: 'A Walk Among The Tombstones' Starring Liam Neeson And Dan Stevens

18 September 2014 7:25 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Before sitting down to watch the new Liam Neeson movie, audiences have been prepped to see the weary-faced action star kicking ass with class, thanks to entertaining flicks like “Taken,” “Non-Stop,” and “The Grey.” But, for every “Taken” there’s a “Taken 2,” and if one year the grizzly Irishman can come out with something as forceful as “The Grey,” the following year “Battleship” can sink people’s opinions once more. It’s just not simple to put a finger on the prospects of a new Neeson film, particularly one directed by screenwriter-turned-director Scott Frank. The only previous feature Frank has directed was the overlooked and underrated “The Lookout,” and he's also got “Get Shorty” and “Out Of Sight” under his writing belt, as well as the less memorable “Flight Of The Phoenix.” With this combined pedigree from the actor and writer-director, the two dominant forces behind “A Walk Among The Tombstones, »

A Walk Among The Tombstones Review

16 September 2014 8:30 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Scott Frank

Cast: Liam Neeson, Dan Stevens, Boyd Holbrook, David Harbour

Certificate: 15

Running Time: 113 Minutes

Synopsis: Private investigator Matthew Scudder is hired by a drug kingpin to find out who kidnapped and murdered his wife

If waiting until January 2015 for the next instalment of Liam Neeson putting the world to rights in Taken 3 seems like a wait you just can’t handle, A Walk Among The Tombstones could just be the intermediary tonic you need.

This is director Scott Frank’s second foray as the main man behind the camera following 2007’s The Lookout, his main experience lies in screenwriting. Interestingly, Frank also wrote the screenplay for A Walk Among The Tombstones, which is one possible explanation for the timer being allowed to hit the 113 minute mark when a 90 minute non-stop action thriller may have suited the storyline better.

Matt Scudder (Neeson) is an unlicensed private detective who, »

A Walk Among The Tombstones review

16 September 2014 2:43 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Liam Neeson plays a New York detective in A Walk Among The Tombstones. Here's Simon's review of a halfway decent thriller...

It starts well. Liam Neeson, with facial hair, is knocking back his customary two shots and a coffee. It's morning, he's a New York cop, it's 1991, and he's sat in a bar where the light bleaches the windows. Suddenly, he's chasing down bad guys. Things happen. It's all framed really well, the film grabs your attention, and then? Afraid so. It spends the next two hours very gently letting it go.

Post-credits, the action moves forward to 1999, which director Scott Frank signifies time and time again with reference to the Y2K millennium bug. He notes it so many times you end up convinced it must be a brilliant plot device. It isn't. It's a bludgeoning reminder of the year the film is set in, that underpins the many »

27 Things We Learned from ‘The Lookout’ Commentary

4 September 2014 11:00 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Scott Frank wrote some of the best films of the past 20 years. His work on Out of SightGet Shorty, and Minority Report is nothing short of fantastic. After plenty of experience as a screenwriter Frank finally got behind the camera in 2007 with The Lookout. His snowy neo-noir was a hit with critics, but didn’t perform quite as well at the box office. That’s a shame, because it’s an exceptional dramatic thriller, boasting outstanding performances from Joseph Gordon-LevittIsla FisherMatthew Goode, and Jeff Daniels. You also couldn’t ask for a more rewarding script: it takes its time for quiet moments, and yet moves at an exceedingly fast clip; everything set up has a satisfying payoff; and Frank’s original story plays with archetypes. The friendly cop could’ve been a bumbling moron with a gun, but when he’s in a shootout, he’s portrayed as a genuinely competent enforcer. Frank »

Liam Neeson Does His Thing In Shots From A Walk Among The Tombstones

25 August 2014 6:35 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If action cinema has taught us anything over the past few years, it’s this – don’t, under any circumstances, screw with Liam Neeson. Alas, the generic baddies at the heart of this fall’s dark crime thriller A Walk Among the Tombstones do exactly that and, in predictable fashion, pay for it dearly.

With Taken, its sequel, Unknown and Non-Stop under his belt, Neeson has a pretty winning formula for action fare – growl some threats, bark some commands and kick some serious ass. Whether this upcoming pic, less high-octane than high-atmosphere, will deviate from those three steps remains to be seen, but even it doesn’t, there are worse tickets to plunk down cash for than one that allows you to watch Neeson go through those same badass motions one more time.

At the least the new crop of images from A Walk Among the Tombstones reminds us that »

New A Walk Among The Tombstones Images: Liam Neeson and Dan Stevens Are on the Hunt

22 August 2014 2:24 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Universal Pictures has released some new A Walk Among the Tombstones images from director Scott Frank’s (The Lookout) upcoming dark crime thriller.  The film stars Liam Neeson as an alcoholic ex-cop who investigates the kidnapping of a heroin drug lord’s wife, teaming up with a heroin trafficker (Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens) and his brother to hunt down the men responsible for the crime.  While on the surface this could be seen as another cash-in on Neeson’s “badass hunting down bad people” movie genre, I’m highly encouraged by the involvement of Frank.  He penned the scripts for Out of Sight and Minority Report and I was a big fan of his previous directorial effort The Lookout, so it’s with some degree of anticipation that I’m looking forward to this one.   Moreover, Stevens proves in The Guest that he’s more than capable of handling a darker role, »

Spotlight on the Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

20 August 2014 11:33 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

This week, I’m turning my attention and the spotlight in the title of this article to one of my favorite actors working today…Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t appreciate this talented multihyphenate. The rare child actor to successfully transition into a respected adult performer, Gordon-Levitt is widely considered to be one of the best young actors that we have in the business. He’s constantly chosen interesting projects and almost never does anything you’d consider to be just a paycheck job. He’s yet to receive an Academy Award nomination, but one suspects that it’s only a matter of time in that regard. Gordon-Levitt got his start at a young age, first working in television at the tender age of just seven. He’d continue with small parts on the small screen up until he got a few tiny roles in films, »

A Walk Among The Tombstones: First Trailer And Images Suggest Liam Neeson Needs A Different Set Of Skills

Ever since 2008's Taken, Liam Neeson has excelled in playing mature action heroes "with a particular set of skills." In the upcoming A Walk Among the Tombstones, however, it looks like he will display a different skill-set. He's playing Matt Scudder, a former NYPD cop who now works as an unlicensed private investigator. The character was created by the highly-accomplished novelist Lawrence Block and has been featured in a long-running series of books. In this big-screen edition, Scudder is hired by drug dealer Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) to investigate the kidnapping and murder of his wife. The first trailer looks like Scudder's investigation will take him to dangerous places and lead to encounters with dangerous people. Scott Frank (The Lookout) wrote the screenplay and directed. Liam Neeson Is On The Hunt For Murderers In The First A Walk Among The Tombstones Trailer

While you may not know writer/director Scott Frank by name, there's a very good chance that you're familiar with his work. In addition to writing the screenplays for great movies like Barry Sonnenfeld's Get Shorty, Steven Soderbergh's Out Of Sight, Harold Becker's Malice, Steven Spielberg's Minority Report and James Mangold's The Wolverine, he also made his directorial debut with the tightly-scripted, tense Joseph Gordon-Levitt thriller The Lookout. While that last film was all the way back in 2007, finally Frank is coming back with his latest directorial effort, A Walk Among The Tombstones, starring Liam Neeson. The movie won't be arriving in theaters until the fall, but from the look of this debut trailer above it can't get here soon enough. Based on the novel of the same name by Lawrence Block, A Walk Among The Tombstones stars Neeson as Matt Scudder, a former cop »

Universal Pictures have released the first trailer and poster for A Walk Among the Tombstones, director Scott Frank’s (The Lookout) new dark crime thriller starring Liam Neeson.

Based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling mystery novels, the movie will see Neeson play an alcoholic former cop in the movie, and his investigation into the kidnapping of a drug lord’s wife leads to him having to team up with a heroin trafficker in order to track down the men responsible for the crime.

From what we see in the trailer below, A Walk Among The Tombstones looks a lot darker than many of the other movies of this type that Liam Neeson has done recently, so it definitely looks promising.

'A Walk Among the Tombstones' trailer: Liam Neeson and 'Black Hole Sun,' together at last

29 May 2014 2:35 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Liam Neeson really could use something like Scott Frank's "A Walk Among the Tombstones." The word "paycheck" is becoming synonymous with his name lately (not that things like "The Grey" and Martin Scorsese's upcoming "Silence" don't do a lot to mitigate this), but it would be good to see some serious, solid, consistent flexing from him again. In this adaptation of Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels, Neeson stars as Matt Scudder, an ex-nypd cop who now works as an unlicensed private investigator operating just outside the law (naturally). He agrees to help find the people who kidnapped and murdered a drug dealer's wife and the story unfolds from there. Frank has worked wonders on the page in his time ("Get Shorty," "Out of Sight," "Minority Report") and his directorial debut, "The Lookout," was very well-received in 2007. I've been looking forward to this one for a while, »
