Summer 2012 is nowhere near as massive as Summer 2011.  But you know, that may be a blessing in disguise.  Summer 2012 still has more than its fair share of films to look forward to, and the big ones are especially noteworthy.  How can a summer with The Avengers, Prometheus, and The Dark Knight Rises Possibly go wrong?  Well, it can't.  So, even though Summer 2012 isn't as over-packed as Summer 2011 one, there's still plenty for film fans to salivate over.  So without further ado, let's get started!  Part Three of Tmp's Prelude to 2012 begins right now!

Summer 2012 is certainly kicking off with a bang.  Releasing everywhere on May 4 is The Avengers, the long awaited superhero film putting all our favorite Marvel characters (minus Spider-Man, Wolverine, Daredevil, and all the ones you Really like) into one team.  The build up for The Avengers has been intense, with over four years and five films of investment, »

'The Paperboy' poster: Let's play Where's Matthew McConaughey?

29 December 2011 6:43 AM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Director Lee Daniels has only helmed three films, but each one has boasted a fascinating, eclectic cast: There was 2005′s Shadowboxer, starring, among others, Cuba Gooding Jr., Helen Mirren, and Macy Gray; 2009′s Oscar-nominated Precious, starring the Oscar-nominated Gabourey Sidibe, Oscar winner Mo’Nique, and Mariah Carey; and now The Paperboy, starring Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack, Nicole Kidman, and Zac Efron. And seeing the latter four actors together on one poster has left me really intrigued.

The film, which is adapted from Pete Dexter’s novel, centers on a reporter and his brother who attempt to get an innocent man »

Robert Maier wrote a book about working for John Waters and now he’s got a blog with a ton more stories. This article about how Hairspray became a PG-rated movie is extremely fascinating, but go ahead and read through the entire site, too.Michael Varrati has a wonderful interview up with Lewis Jackson, director of the Christmas cult classic You Better Watch Out aka Christmas Evil. Jackson is very candid about all the horrible things that went wrong making the film and with its distribution. Yet, he still managed to make a masterpiece.Film Comment posted up their list of the Best Unreleased Movies in 2011 and, of course, they have some underground films on there, like Alex Ross Perry’s The Color Wheel, which screened at this year’s Chicago Underground Film Festival; and experimental features like Nathaniel Dorsky’s The Return, Ken Jacobs’ Seeking the Monkey King, »

The first trailer for the Hollywood makeover of Broadway musical and '80s metal music driver "Rock of Ages" has arrived. Adam Shankman -- who brought "Hairspray" to the big-screen in 2007 -- is at the helm, and has revealed plot points and actual hairspray in this early glimpse. Below are five things we've gleaned from the preview of "Rock of Ages," due June 1 next year:   The "bad guys" are no longer German developers who intend on making-over the sexy rock lair that is the Sunset Strip. Poster and Trailer for Rock of Ages Starring Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Alec Baldwin

14 December 2011 10:42 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

For those that aren't familiar with the hit Broadway musical, the trailer for the movie adaptation for Rock of Ages may not explain the musical's plot, but it does reveal the comedic — borderline ridiculous — tone of the ensemble movie. Set in 1980s Hollywood, the trailer reveals the movie's large ensemble, filled with rock 'n roll sensations (Tom Cruise), club owners (Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige), club managers (Russell Brand), rock 'n roll haters (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and rock 'n roll dreamers (Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta).

"This movie is just a giant party," director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) said to MTV about the trailer. "It's a bring-your-friends giant party." And, according to Shankman, no one had more fun at the party than Cruise.

The 80s Are Back In Rock Of Ages Poster And Trailer

14 December 2011 5:09 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

There’s a possible new guilty pleasure on the horizon and in comes in the form of this big-screen production of Rock Of Ages. The hit broadway musical is brought to the screaming 1980s masses by the director of Hairspray Adam Shankman. This is set in 1987 Los Angeles where Drew and Sherrie are busy chasing their dreams in the big city. One day they meet and it’s love at first sight but there’s a lot of things in the way to overcome on their journey to the so-called promised land of fame.

Leading the way in rock ‘n roll is Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx and this trailer does a lot to purposefully hide his final incarnation, just offering tiny glimpses of the Hollywood superstar. It also stars Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Ackerman, Mary J. Blige and Alec Baldwin. Rock Of Ages »

Julianne Hough Smitten by Tom Cruise in First 'Rock of Ages' Trailer

13 December 2011 11:50 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

"Rock of Ages" has got its first trailer. Centering on a famous rock star, Stacee Jaxx, tackled by Tom Cruise, the video shows how he charms a bunch of girls with his music and bad-boy persona. One of those who falls for him is a small town girl named Sherrie who is played by Julianne Hough. She's seen fainting when running into him by the door of a club.

In addition to previewing the first meeting between Sherrie and Stacee, the clip also gives a peek at Catherine Zeta-Jones as a leader of conservative women who get into action to shut down rock music club, the Bourbon Room, due to "sex and hateful music." She voices her protests to the press by shouting to the camera, "This club is totally out of control."

Set on the Sunset Strip during the 1980's era, "Rock of Ages" follows a story of Sherrie »

Tom Cruise Autographs Boobs in Rock of Ages Trailer

13 December 2011 8:38 PM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Tom Cruise is expected to be the focus in Warner Bros. marketing campaign for Rock of Ages. As the first trailer released earlier today proves, there's a lot more going on than Cruise jamming on stage with his shirt off.

Rock of Ages is set primarily in 1987 and based on the Tony-nominated Broadway musical of the same name. Adam Shankman of Hairspray fame directs an impressive cast including Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Ackerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.

In the film, a small-town girl (Hough) with dreams of becoming an actress meets up with a big city boy (Boneta) who wants to rock out and become a star. Neither are prepared for the good and the bad that Hollywood has to offer.

Throughout the trailer Cruise's rocker character Stacee Jaxx is only shown from afar. After the title card, »

‘Rock of Ages’ Trailer: An ’80s Hairspray Sequel

13 December 2011 6:10 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Warner Bros has released the trailer for Rock of Ages, another musical adaptation of a popular Broadway production from “the director of Hairspray,” Adam Shankman. His latest trades racial segregation and the ’60s for rock-n-poll persecution and the technicolor ’80s.

But it’s still all about the hair. “Dancing with the Stars” and Footloose remake star Julianne Hough is seen spraying her blond bangs, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand compete for most ridiculous mane, and the rest is a blur of hair bands and dance numbers. Catherine Zeta Jones replaces Michelle Pfieffer as the Christian leader who rallies her congregation against the protagonist’s scandalous music. Queen Latifah is out as the naive one’s wise encouragement, and Mary J. Blige is in. Finally, Tom Cruise is revealed as the de facto headliner, in an androgynous part, just like fellow Scientologist John Travolta’s cross-dressing turn as Edna Turnblad in Shankman’s 2007 musical adaptation. »

Trailer: ‘Rock of Ages’ – Tom Cruise Is A Golden God

13 December 2011 2:58 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Here is your first look at the rock musical/comedy Rock of Ages. You know, the one that features Tom Cruise as a has-been rock star who is set to rock out a notorious Hollywood rock club in 1987. (How many times are we going to write “rock” in this post?) Anyway, what you may not know is that the film, which is directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray, Bringing Down The House), also features other stars like Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, and Mary J. Blige. All of them are featured in the trailer and most of them sing songs from the 1980′s! The film also features Pretty Little LiarsDiego Boneta and Dancing with the StarsJulianne Hough as two young crazy kids in love, as well as Bryan “I Do The Knocking” Cranston, who’s nowhere to be found in the trailer. Anyway, enjoy either wholeheartedly or ironically! »
