With all the formula romantic comedies churning out of the studio system, it's a joy to discover a small film that recognizes the value of cleverness, instead of merely cliché.Although a low budget feature, the production values of Breaking & Entering are similar to most TV movies, while the dialog and storyline are refreshingly unique. The sultry attraction and battle of wits between the lead characters hearkens back to the glory days of Hollywood's screwball romantic comedies, offering the viewer a sense of fast-paced fun and the promise of love unfrustrated, no matter how many devilish plot twists the characters use to trip each other up.The mostly unknown cast attacks the script with charm to spare. The con games sprinkled throughout generated laughs from the film festival audience where I saw it screened. The DVD added even more fun, with an improved soundtrack and a few bonus features. Definitely worth checking out.
