an interesting miscalculated love story
12 minutes isn't enough time to tell a sweet and delicate love story, but at least you can tell a simple story about two lovers. That's the case with Aaron Soto's "33 1/2", a movie that is considered, by Soto himself, a romantic comedy, but its not romantic or funny, its just a good movie.
The movie is about a girl named Cindy C. who is obsessed with vinyl discs and music. One night is thrown out of the nightclub she works in, and right then she meets Chriss (played by Soto himself) and falls in love with him.
"33 1/2" it's really about two things: a girl that is obsessed with vinyl discs, and a love story, but here is were the miscalculation takes place. There's is no transition between the two subjects, and a transition is necessary because the two subjects are so irrelevant to each other. And the saddest thing is that the movie focuses more on the love story than the vinyl-obsessed-girl story, and unfortunately the vinyl story is the more interesting one.
Still, it's a very good movie, and Aaron Soto is a good director on the technical point of view. There's a wonderfully well done scene were everything on the screen turns into animation, and we see an animated version of the two lovers holding each other. The technical quality is there, all that Soto needs is a more simple story to work with.
