On July 7th, Maryland's Clutch will release Strange Cousins From The West, their ninth studio album, and the first on their own label, Weathermaker Music. After almost 20 years, Clutch is one of the rare bands that has managed to maintain a loyal fanbase that has been there since the beginning, while gaining new listeners with each new record.
Fangoria Musick caught up with guitarist Tim Sult, one of the key players behind the distinctive Clutch sound, to discuss the new album, the band's change of business model, and to talk a little horror.
James Zahn (Fangoria): After being on numerous labels over the years (Atlantic, Eastwest, Earache, Drt) you guys are going out on your own with Weathermaker Music. I’ve seen the Clutch DVD (Full Fathom Five) that you recently released, and now Strange Cousins From The West will be the first full-length Clutch album released on your own label.

When French director Michele Gondry isn't taking mundane life and twisting it into whimsical fairy tales a la Science of Sleep or Be Kind Rewind he's making documentaries on the sly. Not exactly Dave Chappelle's Block Party however, The Thorn in the Heart looks to be much more of a personal journey for Gondry, retracing his roots through the story of his Aunt.
Synopsis:
Suzette, Michel Gondry's aunt, was a school teacher from 1952 to 1986 and she tells Michel how it was to be a teacher back then in a rural and isolated part of France. But little by little, Michel discovers some family stories he was totally unaware of and uses his camera to explore it in a subtle but very emotional way.
The Thorn in the Hearth is premiering at Cannes but is not in competition. After the break are the first images from the film. Most of

After typically coming to the forefront because of a bold vision or creating something extraordinary, acclaimed filmmakers have a tendency to become more and more predictable as the years go on. Their new work becomes too similar to the previous films, the subject matter and style increasingly repetiitve. Famed French media maestro and Oscar-winner Michel Gondry clearly doesn't want to fall into that rut. And yet, after his breakthrough success "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," Gondry's next three films may not have been divergent enough. Sure, "Dave Chappelle's Block Party" didn't include any of his signature dream sequences, plays with...

When it was announced that Stephen Chow would no longer be directing The Green Hornet project that Seth Rogen had been developing, I was worried that we wouldn't see a better director eventually get the gig. But I was wrong. Michel Gondry, known as the wacky mind behind Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Science of Sleep, and Be Kind Rewind, has signed on to direct. While this is definitely not an expected choice, I'm certainly loving it. I was already excited for Green Hornet beforehand, and I'm a big Gondry fan separately, so combining those two was like seeing your two favorite actors finally work together. This is the most mainstream project Gondry has ever taken on. Although Be Kind Rewind was made by New Line Cinema, it was still considered an independent and low-budget creation, and even Dave Chappelle's Block Party falls into the indie category as well.

Relativity Media Buys Rogue Pictures
As I mentioned in a previous post, Relativity Media was in talks with Universal to buy Rogue Pictures, which is producing Channing Tatum's upcoming action movie 'Fighting'.
Variety is reporting that, after more than two months of negotiations, it's now official that Relativity Media will buy Rogue Pictures from Universal Pictures for roughly $150 million.
In 2004, Rogue Pictures was launched as a label under Universal-owned Focus Features, with the label's goal being "high-quality suspense, action, thriller and urban features with mainstream appeal and franchise potential", and in 2005, Universal expanded the operations
