This is a pretty good low budget movie for kids. Chloe Dykstra is the only female lead, and she carries this movie because she has a lot more charm and personality than any of the other characters. Her fellow teenage actors are just around for the pratfalls. The main bad guy is played by Michael Stanton, and he over-acts and hams it up pretty badly. At one point he is playing a dual role, and that is two times too much! William Sanderson plays the accomplice to Stanton, and he is generally a likable character actor and he does the best acting among the adult actors in this movie. Dennis Haskins plays the bumbling sheriff. Sadly, his acting is as bad as it has always been, and Haskins apparently will never go beyond his limited roles as an incompetent teacher, principal, sheriff, etc. Here he really drags the movie down, as he Haskins comes into the movie towards the end, when it was picking up momentum. Painted Forrest is pretty good in spite of Michael Stanton and Dennis Haskins. Credit the charm of Chloe Dykstra and William Sanderson for making the film enjoyable and fun to watch!
