This is really out of this world..., 16 August 2006

I just had the luck to see this film at the Hamburg Fantasy Film Fest and loved it, why? It is so far out and funny, in all shades, good humour, bad humour and very bad humour. A little like the Team America makers decided to save the budget by using wax puppets and use the saved cash for really bad substances (I know of course that this is not the case, but look at it and you should see what I mean ;-)) The plot follows the Armageddon script and has some very recognizable scenes almost exactly taken from, it well, momentarily to change drastically and create humour this way and it works! If you like your puppet comedies tough, go and see this one. If you mind bad language and/or explicit themes and scenes, maybe reconsider...

An hour and a half of clay-mation hilarity!, 17 October 2006

At first, I had my reservations about this movie. I wasn't a big fan of Team America:World Police, and I had heard that this was along a similar vein. Fortunately, I decided to see it anyway, and I laughed harder than I have in a long time. Don't get me wrong, this movie is offensive to just-about every demographic imaginable, but it is in a tongue in cheek way, as opposed to a mean-spirited way. If you can't stand foul language, sex, graphic violence, nudity, and racial stereotypes acted-out by clay figures, then this movie is not for you. But, if you have a sense of humor, like Naked Gun-like physical comedy, and witty, biting dialog, then you must see this movie!
Not for kids animated spoof is very good until the plot and the bathroom jokes overwhelm the fun, 24 August 2008

Robot Chicken like film that spoofs Armageddon and other big screen scifi and disaster films. Full of sex and violence and nudity and poop jokes this film had me in stitches for the first half of its running time as it played like Robot Chicken with a potty mouth. The problem is that just before the half hour mark the plot kicks in and they have to make do with the stupidity they've set in motion. On top of that the graphic bathroom jokes hit critical mass and the film begins to fall apart. Yea I laughed during the second half but not as much as the first. Considering I paid about 2 bucks for the DVD in a dump bin at Blockbuster I got my moneys worth out of it. The DVD contains a couple of short animated films by the same director, a Star trek spoof thats WAY too long at 8 minutes, two brief Forest Gump spoofs that are okay, and a truly twisted in a wrong sort of way as a mommy explains to her daughter why one of her Barbie like doll comes in a wheel chair. It should be stated none of the shorts or even the feature should be viewed by children.

Redeeming Value with "Borat-like" humor., 19 March 2007

"Disaster! The Movie" is a weird mix of the profound and the profane. The profound: a good reflection of our own reflection (ref. Borat's humor). The very fact that the movie's stereotypes and clichés can be funny at times says something about our own values/views of the world. (Guilty...I laughed out-loud at times.) The profane: fart jokes, racism, sexism, homophobia, lackluster plot. Although the plot was soft, the writers have a good eye for those nonsensical sensibilities which seem to SELL and which have been so deadly to quality movies. Also; terrific animation, production values and talented voices. The "Director's Comments" and"Behind-the-Scenes" extras are interesting. If you like "South Park"and "Team America", then give it a try.

A Very Hilarious Claymation Comedy, 31 December 2008

I enjoyed the Celebrity Deathmatch series a lot because of the
originality to the whole show. Then when I saw this on Netflix I
decided to put it in my Q. It came just a few days ago and when I
finally put it in I was literally wondering why I didn't put it in
sooner. This movie was extremely hilarious. It went overboard on the
sexual content, but the movie was damn funny in it's own right. The
concept of the whole movie being done in clay was probably what made it
even more hilarious to see. I really recommend that fans of Celebrity
Deathmatch go out and see this one because it was extremely funny and
entertaining for those who like this type of movie.

If you are the type who will giggle uncontrollably at the mere mention
of poop or penis, no matter what the context, then you will love this
movie. However, if you happen to be over 12 you will most likely be
yawning and looking at your watch waiting for the film to be over. I am
by no means prudish or sensitive to crude humor, I am a big fan of
South Park. However, unlike South park, there is no intelligent satire
or clever parodies in this movie. The jokes are so juvenile and
predictable that it consistently falls flat on its face.
It's almost as if the makers were expecting the long worn off novelty
of adult animation to carry this movie alone, without giving any
particular thought to the script whatsoever. Oh look, they are
parodying Armageddon, ha ha, oh look there's poop, ha ha, oh my god,
that is so funny. This basically sums up the whole movie, minus the
laughs. There is absolutely nothing funny about this movie. It is aptly
named "Disaster!". It is not even worth 99 cents from the bargain bin.
It would be a waste of 99 cents. Even if you got to see it for free it
would be a waste of 83 minutes.
Bottom line: avoid this movie if you value your time or money.

Funniest movie ever!, 13 February 2007

This is the funniest movie I've ever seen in my entire life. If you like gratuitous violence, cliché humor, random sex scenes, farting and just raunchy tasteless over the top insanity, then this movie is for you. It is tons better than team America. I could not stop laughing, and new laughs would interrupt old laughs it just kept going and going. It's not for the easily offended or kids, but wow, what a riot. It's so over the top, but it didn't come across as trying to be, like some films just use the F word repeatedly and try to get a reaction, but this movie didn't really need to, they used a lot of other methods to keep repulsive and outrageous without being running one method into the ground. The story was good too, although a rip off of Armageddon, but that made it even better in my opinion.

I watched this film last night expecting to see something along the
lines of 'Southpark' or 'Team America' since the movie was described as
'hilarious' adult animation. Either my definition of hilarious is
different to the reviewers or they have the sense of humour of a 12
year old.
Utterly terrible in all but the standard of the claymation animation,
if fart-gags, terrible innuendo, racial stereotype based jokes and
puppet nudity are your thing, you'll love it. If you've passed puberty,
you'll probably hate it.
As I said the only 'good' thing about the movie is the animation, along
the lines of 'celebrity deathmatch', I can't fault the animators
talents.

So you thought "Team America" and "Thunderbirds" were crap? Then just wait until you see the marginal and totally retarded puppet-farce called "Disaster!". It's the ultimate reason for Muppet Show creator Jim Henson to turn in his grave. I guess I must have seen a different movie than the other two reviewers on this site, as I certainly did NOT see a funny Sci-Fi parody with wit dialogs and hilarious effects, but a hugely irritating and infantile 80 minutes homage to fart-jokes. Released in my country as "Apollo 13 1/3", the plot (haha!) is identical to "Armageddon", with an asteroid threatening to wipe out mankind upon its collision with earth. All the recognizable sequences from that film, as well as several other ones, are ridiculed in a very un-funny and clichéd manner. The male puppets all are perverted and trigger-happy idiots and the females are dumb sluts with giant plastic breasts. You may anticipate crude humor about handicapped people and racist remarks towards pretty much every ethnic group living on this planet. In good old South Park tradition, the film is very gore and multiple puppets have their heads blown off or their entrails ripped out. But the humor in Trey Parker's films is actually really tasteful & original compared to the pathetic imagination of director/creator Roy T. Wood. This type of crap isn't even funny when you're drunk or stoned and I truly regret wasting the money of a rental on it.
