Powerful visuals, acting and script
1 October 2004 | by (Bronx, NY) – See all my reviews

This film is a powerful piece of work. Unlike past films which deal with the Mob and its influence on others, the Italians are not a bunch of stereotyped characters, nor is the violence gratuitous. The movie focuses more on how plans are made, how money exchanges hands, the ever-present threat of instant death, the apathy toward the value of human life-much more chilling and effective than the gore which is generally highlighted. Most of all it is the story of one man's(Bono) coming to terms with the senseless reality of this lifestyle at the time of 9/11, yet presented as an awakening of feeling in a true-to-life way, without undue sentimentality. The film has a gritty look about it appropriate to the subject, the acting is superb on all counts. A salute to the lead, Paul Bomba for his believability and one to Adam Zayed for putting out a quality product that can appeal to a mass audience without the drek that often accompanies such efforts.
