‘Machete Kills’ Blu-ray: A Stylized Hero gets his Heart Ripped Out

Robert Rodriguez is one of those directors that everybody has heard of, but nobody really gets. Most viewers want to firmly decide whether they love or hate Rodriguez. After all, he directed El mariachi, Desperado, and From Dusk Till Dawn. He also worked alongside Frank Miller on Sin City. If you forget the Spy Kids franchise, or chalk it up as his good deed for children, that’s a pretty solid list of credits. All of those movies warrant a second watch.

He’s also become the hipster filmmaker hero, after he released his book “Rebel Without a Crew.” Just about every aspiring filmmaker has read this Rodriguez’s tale of run-n-gun shooting. Spike Lee recommends the book to his students at Nyu.

But, then comes along The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D, Grindhouse and the subsequent film Planet Terror and you have to ask yourself one question. What is this guy really doing?

By Zorianna Kit

Los Angeles (Reuters) - To legions of teenage girls and fans of the "Twilight" films, Taylor Lautner will always be known as Jacob Black, the werewolf who competes with a vampire for the love of a young woman.

But on Friday, the boyishly handsome actor with the six-pack strong abdomen hopes to broaden his appeal to wider audiences, headlining movie marquees on his own for the very first time in action thriller "Abduction."

Lautner, 19, finds himself the sole person on the movie's poster with his name above the title -- a major fete for any actor in Hollywood. And he must prove not only that he can draw audiences to box offices, but also that Lautner -- like Cruise or Pitt or Clooney before him -- can be a powerful brand name.

"Abduction" marks the inaugural film of his production company Quick Six, which he runs with his father,

Taylor Lautner Wigs Out On The 'Twilight' Set In Our #2 MTV Moment

Taylor Lautner Wigs Out On The 'Twilight' Set In Our #2 MTV Moment
2008 was a simpler time for Taylor Lautner. Still known primarily as the kid from "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D," the biggest concern for the then-16-year-old (egads!) wasn't yet relentless paparazzi and hardcore fans, but rather, the itchiness of his "Twilight" wig.

But even now with his increasingly-hectic life, the star is taking time to join us this Wednesday (April 13) for "MTV First: Taylor Lautner" for an interview, in which he'll take questions from fans and premiere the trailer for his upcoming action flick, "Abduction."

We've come to have a lot of our own fond memories of Taylor over these past few years, so in preparation for his special, we've been counting down our top five favorite MTV moments with Taylor. Thurs far we've looked back at his Gross(man) encounter of a Les kind, as well as his his ab-off with co-star Robert Pattinson, and a run-in with an inked-up Twi-hard.

Spy Kids 4 Coming in 3-D… with a Brand New Cast

Looks like Robert Rodriguez will once again continue his pattern of alternating between violent films for adults and goofy comedies for kids over the next couple of years, as Spy Kids 4 is currently being set up at Dimension Films with a potential release date of August 19th, 2011. Last year, Rodriguez released the family adventure film Shorts, and now this year he is producing Predators and co-directing Machete. Before that it was Planet Terror, preceded by The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. The last Spy Kids movie was Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, which was released back in 2003. Rodriguez was slightly ahead of the curve with the whole 3-D trend, so it only makes sense that Spy Kids 4 should also be a 3-D film. The full title is Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, and Rodriguez himself has described it as a reboot of sorts,

Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance "Twilight" took a bite out of the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday (January 6), receiving not only four statuettes, but quite a good-natured ribbing from host Queen Latifah.

Midway through the telecast, Latifah strolled through the audience, stopping at 17-year-old Taylor Lautner's seat to ask for a photo. "You look so different with clothes on," Latifah observed. George Lopez, a presenter and Lautner's co-star in "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D," also got in on the act. "Dude, you're my screen saver. I love you so much," he joked. "I'm wearing 'New Moon' chones [Spanish for underwear]."

But Latifah didn't stop there with her "Twilight" teasing. In one of the night's digital shorts,

Taylor Lautner's Abs to Host Saturday Night Live

Better warm up the TiVo, Team Jacob; Us Magazine reports that New Moon hunk Taylor Lautner will be testing out his comedic chops on December 12, as the host of Saturday Night Live. (Apparently, SNL's attempts to woo Lautner's co-star, Robert Pattinson, have so far fallen flat.) The questions abound: Do you think Lautner has the sense of humor to pull off the gig? Do you think T-Laut will spoof his classic The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D? Perhaps most importantly, how many skits do you think will require Taylor to doff his shirt? Share your predictions in the comments...

Taylor Lautner: Adorable asskicker in 2005

Chances are, I will never watch Robert Rodriguez's The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. However, I have now watched the video of Taylor Lautner promoting the 2005 film on Access Hollywood by showcasing his extreme martial arts skills three times. Seriously impressive and screaming Gymkata Remake! (No, I'm not ready to let that dream go.) Watch that video after the jump, then check out two more clips in which young Lautner discusses his first-degree black belt ("I like this belt," he giggles, "It's like silk") and how difficult it is when your focus is constantly shifting between school and

Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift may have yet to confirm their rumored relationship, but if they do, Miley Cyrus wants them to know that she has their back. The Hannah Montana star, who's friends with both the Fearless singer and the New Moon hunk (she's known Lautner "for, like, a really long time," since she auditioned for the 2005 classic The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D), said in a radio interview last week that if the two are actually dating, she's A-ok with it. Kristin Davis Feels Protective Towards Shirtless Taylor Lautner

Taylor Lautner got public attention after starring as Sharkboy on 2005 movie "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D". Recently, his co-star on the film, Kristin Davis, said she is still concerned about his personal life.

"I'm just a little ... I feel protective, like what is he doing without his shirt on? And then I hear he's dating people and I'm like, 'Ahh!' " the "Sex and the City" actress told MTV News. Gushing about Lautner, Kristin stated, "He's a great kid and he works really, really, really hard and he had a great professional ethic when I worked with him. [He was] nothing of those negative things that you think of with child actors. So for anyone to be succeeding, I'm happy for him."

Recalling the time when she filmed "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D" along with the 17-year-old hottie, Kristin said, "Oh, the youngster! He was the Sharkboy, and

Kristin Davis knew Taylor Lautner long before he was the beefy heartthrob from the "Twilight" flicks. The "Sex and the City" star worked with the 17-year-old when he played Sharkboy in 2005's "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D," and like any proud mom-type figure, she's happy to see how far he's come.

"Oh, the youngster! He was the Sharkboy, and I played the mother of the other kid who imagined Sharkboy and Lavagirl in Robert Rodriguez's movie, and I met him down in Texas. He was a kid," she enthusiastically told MTV News about her former co-star. "He was a kid and he didn't have those muscles, and I don't know what happened. I see these pictures [now and] I can't believe it.

Taylor Lautner To Reprise His Role As Jacob In Twlight Sequel "New Moon"!

It's official. Here's the press release as posted by Ain't It Cool News:

Taylor Lautner To Reprise His Role As Jacob In New Moon

Los Angeles, CA January 7, 2009 – Summit Entertainment and director Chris Weitz are pleased to confirm that Taylor Lautner will reprise his role as Jacob Black in the Twilight franchise’s next film installment New Moon.

“I'm very happy that Taylor will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit, the producers and Stephenie Meyer,” said Weitz. “The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books
