The X Factor 2015: Everything we know so far including the judges, auditions and rumours

18 hours ago | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

The X Factor is still a few months away, but that doesn't mean we don't know anything about what to expect when it rolls back into town. In fact, we've been getting a few snippets here and there, so read on for everything we know so far about the new series!

When is it back on television?

We don't have a confirmed date for The X Factor's return yet. That won't be announced until much nearer the time, but we'd bet it will start in August - it has for every other series apart from the first. In fact, series 11 began on August 30, while series 10 kicked off on August 31. If we're taking that general ballpark as a guide, we'd guess Saturday, August 29 - but it could be a week or so earlier, as the last two years have had the latest launches since series one.

Britain's Got Talent's Ella Shaw: 'My audition wasn't as good as I can be'

11 May 2015 8:50 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Britain's Got Talent hopeful Ella Shaw has admitted that she doesn't think her audition showed her at her best.

Shaw wowed the judges at the weekend with her original song 'Summertime', but told Digital Spy today that she feels like she has a lot to prove to the judges.

"Alesha said that I was one to watch, so that kind of puts a bit of pressure on, but it also drives me to work harder," she said. "I want to up my game now. I don't think my audition was as good as I could be. So I really want to do better next time, if I get the opportunity."

Shaw admitted that even her father had some comments about her audition, saying: "My dad's a big critic – he supports me but I know he'll tell me, and he agreed with me, he knew it wasn't my best. I was »

Lauren Platt's brother Lewis auditions for Britain's Got Talent this weekend - and you can watch a sneak peek of his try-out right here.

Lewis - who appeared on stage with his big sister on The X Factor - auditions for the Bgt judges as part of the dance troupe Entity.

The Essex-based group, made up of 20 members aged from 10-15, try to make it into the next round of the competition by performing to Bgt's famously dramatic music 'Lux Aeterna' and 'Uptown Funk'.

But will their flips, breakdancing and choreography be enough to convince the judges to put them through?

Elsewhere this weekend, 29-year-old former policeman Aaron Carty surprises the judges with his drag act.

His tribute to Beyoncé - complete with backing dancers and lip syncing - gets the crowd on side, but will the judges feel the same way?

And Aaron's not the only unusual act, »

The Los Angeles-based sisters, who boast over 550,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel, attracted the attention of the Beyoncé’s manager because of their cover of the pop star’s song “Pretty Hurts.” The Baileys’ cover has 8.4 million video views to date. According to The New York Post, the sisters’ father Douglas claims his daughters worship Beyoncé and he wrote documents related to the deal that “we cannot think of a better person to help guide the girls.”

The third teenager to sign with Beyoncé is New York-based Sophie Beem. The 14-year-old singer and songwriter appeared on The X Factor in 2012, where she placed in the top 40 contestants. »

BAFTA award ceremony are always glitzy affairs, and the TV Craft awards are no different. Taking place at London’s The Brewery, the biggest and best talent in TV were celebrated, with awards being given out for Best Costume Design, Best Writer and Best Director.

The first winner of the night was The Musketeers, with Phoebe De Gaye taking away the award for Best Costume Design. Clearly a little flabbergasted by her win, she took to the media room with only great things to say about her time on the BBC One smash:

It’s a great show to design. It’s got great scope, fantastic characters and it’s a great period to be given a bit of a contemporary feel to it. We also had a fantastic set up in the Czech Republic, which gave us a lot of room to make great costumes

Has Dermot O'Leary swapped The X Factor for the police?

30 April 2015 3:00 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

It looks like Dermot O'Leary has swapped The X Factor for the police force in this picture.

But it's just for BBC Three's brand new show Murder In Successville - a comedy, reality murder mystery.

The show sees celebrity sidekicks join Dci Sleet (Tom Davis) to try to solve a murder in a fictional town full of 'celebrities', but they have no idea what's going to happen to them when they sign up for the show.

We'll get to see them put through their paces by Sleet as they attempt to arrest the right suspect - but will they manage it?

"I got to star in my very own murder mystery and I loved every minute of it... apart from the itchy uniform," O'Leary joked.

Murder in Successville begins on Wednesday (May 6) at 10pm on BBC Three. »

Atlantis axe: Sarah Parish thinks the BBC didn't want to take a risk

22 April 2015 2:27 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Sarah Parish thinks that the BBC didn't want to take the risk on a third series of Atlantis because it was an expensive show that didn't get a mass audience immediately.

The show was axed in January ahead of the broadcast of the second half of its second series.

"It's very sad," Parish - who plays Pasiphaë in the fantasy adventure - told Metro of the cancellation.

"The programme was cancelled because it was expensive to make and because it didn't get a huge audience straight away, so I think it was a risk the BBC didn't want to take."

She added: "I feel sorry for the fans because we had quite a big following. They were loyal and very upset when they found out the programme had been cancelled.

"It was an exceptionally good format but it was a children's show really and we were put on at 8.30pm, »

Caroline Flack is a natural presenter full of quick wit; Olly Murs has a hat. Together, can they recapture The X Factor’s lost youth?

So it’s official: this year’s season of The X Factor will be presented by Olly Murs and Caroline Flack. This isn’t really a surprise – the pair have been favourites for the job ever since Dermot O’Leary’s sudden exit last month – but is it a good decision? I’d argue that it’s half of one.

The show originally aired between 2005 and 2006 with the aim of pairing up celebrities - but this time it will aim to match members of the public instead.

She said: "I can't wait to host the revamped Love Island. I was a massive fan of the original show, and I'm sure this is going to be one crazy, love-fuelled island.

"I can't really think of a better way to spend a summer - here's hoping it's a scorcher!"

The X Factor needs a 'fresh' host, says Joe McElderry

Joe McElderry has said that The X Factor should have a "fresh" host following Dermot O'Leary's departure.

The 23-year-old, who won the ITV show in 2009, was asked by Digital Spy whether he thought rumoured new presenter Olly Murs would be a good choice.

"I think it would be really good for them to get somebody fresh that's never been associated with the show before," said McElderry, who tipped Davina McCall as a fitting new host.

"I think that would bring a whole new dynamic. But then again, I think Sarah-Jane Crawford - who presented The Xtra Factor - I think she's really good and really fun."

The singer, who is currently touring the UK with his Evolution tour, added: "It would be nice to see a woman present the show, and I absolutely love Davina McCall.

ITV: New Strategy Boosts Online and Pay TV Businesses

7 April 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

ITV’s core business is free-to-air television. But it’s working hard to diversify its revenue streams and has wrestled to rectify its underachieving online and pay businesses.

In annual results published in March, ITV was upbeat, noting that revenues across online, pay and interactive were $226 million, up 30% over 2013.

For ITV, interactive means voting and competitions held across its services.

“Interactive is an important part of our business commercially,” says Simon Pitts, ITV’s managing director of online, pay and interactive. “Crucially, the people who vote are a highly engaged part of our audience. They provide a valuable insight into what our audiences like.”

During the most recent season of ITV’s “The X Factor,” 40 million votes were cast, including 10 million in the show’s finale.

A key component of ITV’s online business is the ITV Player, plagued by problems since it bowed in 2008.

Users have complained of long loading times and unreliability. »
