"Becoming Sam" is an extremely in-depth look at the film "I Am Sam" that can be found on the DVD of "I Am Sam". The documentary is divided into sections which, usefully, can either be watched separately or as a whole. Practically every aspect of production was dealt with in this documentary, and as "I Am Sam" is a particularly favourite film of mine, I really enjoyed the information to be found in this documentary. The director, producers, cast and editor all speak, as well as various other people involved, such as the musicians responsible for covering some Beatles songs for the soundtrack. The screenplay was discussed, and it was really interesting to see the preparation some of the crew did by going to a place called LA Goal to spend time with mentally disabled people like the protagonist of the film. Other aspects of making the film, such as casting and music, were also looked at in detail, but my favourite part was the information about editing. I thought the editing in the film had been original and fantastic and to hear it all explained was really fascinating. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see too much behind the scenes footage, which I always love. This documentary is totally absorbing and it's a must if you enjoyed "I Am Sam".
