Suicide Squad 2 Targets The Shallows Director Jaume Collet-Serra

  • MovieWeb
Just a few months after rumors of Mel Gibson directing Suicide Squad 2 surfaced, it seems the studio has set their sights on another filmmaker. Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed Unknown and Run All Night for Warner Bros., is reportedly the studio's top choice to take the helm on this sequel. Warner Bros. reportedly looked at a number of directors, including Mel Gibson, for this coveted directorial gig, but sources claim the studio is focused on putting Jaume Collet-Serra in the director's chair for this superhero sequel.

Deadline broke the news of Jaume Collet-Serra's potential involvement today, which comes just four months after the studio locked in a new Suicide Squad 2 writer, with Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan) coming aboard to write the screenplay. Original Suicide Squad director David Ayer revealed last summer, just days after the first movie hit theaters, that he was already working on the story for the sequel.

Suicide Squad’s David Ayer in talks to direct Scarface

Tony Sokol May 22, 2017

The Scarface remake looks like it has a new director, as David Ayer enters talks...

Suicide Squad director David Ayer is in early talks to direct and write Universal’s new take on the gangster classic Scarface. Ayer steps in for Antoine Fuqua, who couldn’t fit the film into his schedule, given his current commitment to making The Equalizer 2.

Scarface will follow the rise and fall of a Mexican gangster. It will star Diego Luna, who played Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as the bad immigrant made worse. It will be set in the El Sereno area of South Los Angeles

Ayer has form in the genre. Before Suicide Squad he directed the gritty crime films End Of Watch, Hard Times and Street Kings. He also wrote the screenplay for Training Day. Right now, he's currently directing and producing Bright, which will also star Will Smith,

Scarface Remake Targets Suicide Squad Director David Ayer

Scarface Remake Targets Suicide Squad Director David Ayer
Universal is trucking along with it's Scarface reboot, despite some very vocal fans declaring it blasphemous. Today, we have word that Suicide Squad director David Ayer is getting ready to take on the project. So, what exactly does that mean for Gotham City Sirens over at DC?

The 1983 version of Scarface is a rare beast in cinema. It has gone beyond being 'just a movie' to being a way of life. It's almost a religion in the same way that Star Wars has become one. And though it depicts an Italian gangster's rise and fall, the hip hop community has gravitated to its messages of wealth and power the most. The new Scarface is not delving into Black culture, though. This new take will follow the rise and fall of a Mexican gangster, giving it a whole new spin.

And who better to capture that than director David Ayer, who

Disney's Dumbo Targets Michael Keaton as the Villain

  • MovieWeb
Now that Disney has settled on Colin Farrell to replace Will Smith in Dumbo, the studio is setting their sights on another actor to play the primary villain. The studio has entered into negotiations with Michael Keaton to play the bad guy, joining a cast that also includes Danny De Vito and Eva Green. This project will mark the first time that Michael Keaton has worked with director Tim Burton since the 1992 superhero sequel Batman Returns. Both the actor and director's careers were launched with back-to-back hits in the late 1980s, Beetlejuice in 1988 and Batman in 1989.

Variety reports that Michael Keaton will play a circus owner who acquires a much smaller circus, owned by Danny DeVito's character, so he can exploit the lovable elephant Dumbo and his mother. Earlier reports claimed that the villain's name is Vandermere, but that hasn't been confirmed at this time. Colin Farrell will play

Bright Teaser: Fantasy Meets Reality In New Will Smith Film From Director David Ayer

  • LRM Online
David Ayer has had quite the career thus far. He had his start writing such films as U-571, and the original Fast and the Furious film. From there, he hit his most high profile picture yet when he wrote Training Day, a film that would go on to be praised as one of Denzel Washington’s best performances yet.

In the mid-2000s, Ayer transition into directing, and over the next decade or so, he would establish himself as a helmer of violent dramas that include Street Kings, End of Watch, Sabotage, and Fury. Last year, his most high profile film yet, Suicide Squad hit theaters, and despite making all kinds of money at the box office, it was met with widespread ridicule from critics and fans. Regardless of what you thought of the film, however, there was little denying that he was a talented director. And like any good director,

How Common Prepared For John Wick: Chapter 2 & Gives Awesome Green Lantern Tidbit

  • LRM Online
Common, born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, has come quite a long way since I first remember him rapping in the 90s. Not to say that his music career is something to sneeze at, in fact he won an Oscar, Golden Globe, and a Grammy for his collaboration with John Legend on the song "Glory" in the movie Selma. However, Common has more recently been stretching out his acting wings, and he has been quite proficient in his roles.

I did not even realize that he played in Hell On Wheels, until I saw the opening credits around the mid point of season one. He also played in American Gangster, Terminator Salvation, Smokin' Aces, Wanted, and Street Kings. Oh, and let's not forget his "lengthy" role in Suicide Squad where he learned that looking at Harley Quinn is not the best idea in the world. One thing you may notice about these films,

IndieWire’s Vote: “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story

As the great Ed Harris once said, “You gotta take a side.” And this year, you’ve got to choose between “The People v. O.J. Simpson” and “Fargo.” Sure, “The Night Manager” was a solid throwback thriller and “Roots” justified its reimagining with one helluva run (while “American Crime” remains a dangerously misguided acting exercise), but these two standout entries would be easy choices if they weren’t competing against each other. Noah Hawley’s second season was even bolder than his first, but we’ve got to stick with our TCA pals and back “The People.” Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski’s anthology did what many deemed impossible by making O.J. relevant again, and the craft applied to

Linda Cardellini Cast In Submarine Thriller Hunter Killer

Linda Cardellini has joined the upcoming action thriller Hunter Killer and, at the present time, appears to be the only woman in the cast. The film is a submarine movie based on the novel Firing Point by George Wallace and Don Keith, and is to be the first big budget, high profile project of director Donovan Marsh (Avenged). The high profile comes from the casting of leading actors Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman.

Gerard Butler will play an American submarine commander, who is sent into Russian waters to rescue the Russian President (Gary Oldman), who is caught in the midst of an armed coup. Also in the cast are Toby Stephens, Billy Bob Thornton, Common, Ryan McPartlin, and Gabriel Chavarria. Linda Cardellini will play Jane Norquist – a senior Nsa analyst and Russia expert. So, in other words, she gets to sit in an office talking to a speaker phone, while

Review: Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' Squanders an Impressive DC Ensemble

Written and directed by David Ayer (of Fury, End of Watch, Street Kings, and Harsh Times previously), Suicide Squad sounds like it should be a very fun movie. A secret government agency recruits incarcerated super-villains (from DC Comics lore) to carry out high-risk black ops missions in exchange for reduced sentences? It's The Dirty Dozen with Harley Quinn and the Joker and a few other bad guys, what could possibly go wrong? As it turns out, everything. While the premise is intriguing, the movie is unfortunately an incoherent, aggressively dull mess that squanders an impressive ensemble cast of characters. Based on the DC series by John Ostrander, Suicide Squad begins with Amanda Waller, a ruthless Us intelligence officer played by Viola Davis, hand-picking bad guys from the notorious Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary, a facility designed to hold the "worst of the worst." Her team, Task Force X, includes Deadshot (Will Smith

Suicide Squad review

Ryan Lambie Published Date Thursday, August 4, 2016 - 05:29

Marching to the rattle of machine gun fire and an ever-present mixtape of 60s and 70s rock, along comes writer-director David Ayer’s starry Suicide Squad to see out the summer season. Like a comic book-tinted Dirty Dozen, it introduces a band of criminals and misfits pressed into service as heroes by Amanda Waller (a glowering Viola Davis) - a government operative well versed in “getting people to act against their own self-interest.”

There are dark forces at work in Midway City, and so it’s up to sharp-shooting assassin Deadshot (Will Smith), crazed ex-psychiatrist Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and a bunch of other “psychotics and freaks” to bring order out of chaos. The only trouble is, neither Deadshot nor the rest of his motley crew - which also counts Aussie thief Boomerang (Jai Courtney) man-eating monster Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and

The Crazy Nsfw Suggestion Ayer Gave Delevingne To Prepare For 'Suicide Squad'

  • LRM Online
Since its inception, Suicide Squad has screamed of subversiveness. From the premise- which pits a deranged pack of DC villains together on a suicide mission- to some of the casting choices, from the wild stories of Jared Leto letting his freak flag fly to prepare for Joker, and right down to the hiring of David Ayer- who isn't exactly known for making safe Hollywood fare- we've known that Suicide Squad wasn't going to be, in anyway, paint-by-numbers.

Now comes another behind-the-scenes tale from the making of the next film in the Dceu...

According to Cara Delevingne, who plays Enchantress in the film, she was given some rather peculiar advice by her director upon getting the part. The director, best known for writing and/or directing films riddled with violence, antiheroes, and complex characters having to make tough decisions like Training Day, Street Kings, and End Of Watch, didn't have

'Suicide Squad 2' May Be R-Rated

'Suicide Squad 2' May Be R-Rated
The tremendous success of blockbuster Marvel movie Deadpool has single-handedly sparked a conversation in Hollywood about making more R-Rated superhero movies. And this notion isn't going to go away until the first R-Rated superhero movie bombs. It's already been noted that this August's Suicide Squad will be rated PG-13. But that doesn't mean its sequel can't have a little 'Adults Only' fun. Director David Ayer, who has yet to be confirmed for Suicide Squad 2, thinks that an R rating might be something to push for.

Many in Hollywood are currently pondering how to move forward in a market place where an R-rated superhero movie can and will make a lot of money. Warner Bros. has already announced a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice R-rated Ultimate Cut is coming to the home market. And there's even a rumor that it will be released in theaters. 20th Century Fox
