Germany's e-m-s hangs prod'n shingle

20 April 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

COLOGNE -- German DVD distributor e-m-s new media has launched a feature film production division to invest in local productions as a means of securing exploitation rights, the company said Wednesday. Startup production label 3L Filmproduktion will initially back three upcoming German films: Goldene Zeiten (Golden Times), from Bang, Boom, Bang director Peter Thorwarth; Carsten Strauch's Offene Wunden (Open Wounds); and Das Opfer (The Victim), from TV helmer Nils Willbrandt. "German film is doing very well at the boxoffice right now but up til now, we haven't had many titles in our lineup," an e-m-s spokeswoman said in an interview. "This is a way of getting access to rights, particularly DVD rights, to German films we think have a strong potential." »
