Jake Huard, from a shipbuilders family, promised his dying mother he'd make it to Annapolis Naval Academy. Thanks to tenaciously bugging a Congressman he's selected, despite dubious grades. Once inside Jake soon proves sub-standard academically. Constantly challenged to his limits, repeatedly made the 'over-cocky' reason for the entire class to suffer, Jake nearly quits, but after facing his utterly unsupportive father's gloating returns just in time. Stubborn Jake finds support with mates as well as Ali, his lover-to-be, and a discipline he may excel in: the 'brigade' boxing tournament, open to all ranks. Written by
The trailer shows a battleship exploding and people falling into a pool at what appears to be a party; neither of those things actually appear in the film. See more »

despite critic reviews and the lack of enthusiasm this movie has generated among regular people, i found myself going to see it. it was not what i expected, but frankly, i found it very good.
"Annapolis" is not your typical military movie, and definitely not a "recruitment" film as some people have suggested. the movie centers more on boxing and friendship than the brutal system that is military academies.
though the boxing angle does get tiring once in a while, in this movie i didn't find myself zoning out as i have in the past. the movie combined interesting camera angles and perspectives with fast paced action that kept me, at least, practically riveted.
all in all, i really think this movie was great. it had an aspect of interest for everyone, whether it be romance, action, buddy story, whathaveyou. and just because it didn't make the critic's best list doesn't mean it wasn't worth seeing AND enjoying.
