YouTube is throwing down: The video platform has acquired worldwide rights to “Bodied,” the battle-rap satire from Eminem and noted music-video director Joseph Kahn, for the YouTube Red subscription service.

YouTube will hold an exclusive screening of “Bodied” at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, Jan. 21. The movie then will have a theatrical release before it becomes available exclusively for streaming on YouTube Red later in 2018.

The film is directed and produced by Kahn and produced by Eminem, Def Jam Recordings CEO Paul Rosenberg, Adi Shankar and Jil Hardin. The Shady Films production is executive produced by David Kang, Justin Smith and Bob Abramoff.

Bodied” follows Adam Merkin (Calum Worthy of “Austin & Ally” and “American Vandal”), a progressive grad student who accidentally becomes a top battle-rapper — and whose success breeds outrage.

In addition to Worthy, the film stars Jackie Long (“Idlewild,” “Atl”), Shoniqua Shondai (“Sing It!,” “The Fosters”), Walter Perez (“The Avengers,” “Fame”), [link

Read This: Andre 3000 on why he quit rapping, and if he'll ever return

There hasn’t been a proper OutKast release since 2000's Stankonia. Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was a pair of solo albums connected at the hip, and Idlewild was odds and sods and a great Lil Wayne verse—not exactly the return of the player and the poet. They’ve teased a return to straight rap called 10 The Hard Way

Jimi: All is By My Side | Review

Before the Haze: Ridley’s Nuanced Portrait Worthy of Legendary Subject

After a rather cool reception following high profile festival play at Toronto and SXSW, John Ridley’s Jimi Hendrix biopic, Jimi: All is By My Side will be sure to garner a divisive response upon a theatrical release as well. Unable to acquire the rights to any of his music from the Hendrix estate, those looking for an audio celebration of the legend’s greatest hits will surely be disappointed. Likewise, Ridley, who wrote the screenplay and won an Oscar for 2013 Best Picture Winner 12 Years a Slave, does something even more daring by covering a specific period in Hendrix’s life, paring down the scope for what becomes a startlingly intimate glance at the man’s demeanor and philosophies. While liberties have arguably been taken (Kathy Etchingham has quite vocally railed against the film), gripes considering the presentation of

Outkast Is (Finally) Reuniting at Coachella: 5 Things to Know About André 3000 and Big Boi

Outkast Is (Finally) Reuniting at Coachella: 5 Things to Know About André 3000 and Big Boi
For a while, it seemed like an Outkast reunion was never going to happen. After dropping the soundtrack for Idlewild together in 2006, no other official project from the Grammy-winning duo followed. They stopped performing together, and essentially went silent, much to the chagrin of fans. They crushed hopes of a reunion even more when Antwan "Big Boi" Patton dropped solo albums in 2010 and 2012, and talks of André "3000" Benjamin's solo LP weren't far behind. Over the years, they were featured so much on other artists tracks, like André on Frank Ocean's "Pink Matter" and Big Boi on Killer Mike's "Ready Set Go," that it made us crave the days they rapped...

Outkast Reportedly Making a Comeback at Coachella

It's been seven years since Outkast bandmates Big Boi and Andre 3000 parted ways, but the pair is reportedly slated to unite in next year.

According to Billboard magazine, the pair is ending their hiatus at the Indio, California Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in upcoming April, 2014.

A source told the publication that there has been "some conversations" about Andre and Big Boi deciding to make a reunion happen while another insider stated that "all systems are go."

Although it sounds as though things are in place for the reunion, Andre might have had second thoughts. Earlier this year, the rapper told Spin magazine that fans shouldn't be surprised if the pair doesn't make a joint appearance on Frank Ocean's "Pink Matter" remix as an official come back.

"I was approached as a solo artist by both Frank Ocean & Tip. I discussed musical direction with each other’s and completed my verses.

André 3000 Might Have a Solo Album on the Way

  • Vulture
André 3000 Might Have a Solo Album on the Way
André Lauren Benjamin, unlike his Outkast buddy Big Boi, has never released a solo album. But over the weekend, Bet executive Stephen Hill tweeted the following, presumably from an interview or regular ol' conversation: "Me: hey what's up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah...and I got a solo album coming top of the year." The movie in question is All Is by My Side, André's Jimi Hendrix biopic, which actually isn't allowed to feature any official Hendrix music. So it stands to reason that Three Stacks wrote some tracks for the film and then got a studio groove going and wrote a bunch more, right? It also stands to reason that he's just amassed a bunch of songs since Outkast's Idlewild dropped in 2006 and sees no reason not to use the movie's arrival as extra publicity for an album. Alas, Billboard hit up André's publicist

Watch: Outkast Reunion? Big Boi Won't Rule It Out
The hip hop duo known as Outkast hasn't released an official album since 2003, but that doesn't mean André 3000 and Big Boi aren't interested in collaborating again in the future.

On HuffPost Live Friday, rapper Big Boi noted that he and André 3000 are still best friends and hang out with each other regularly.

"We talk and communicate and we still come to each other's homes, our kids play together," Big Boi told HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski. "When you've been doing music for so long together, you don't have to be joined hip to hip. I know that's what the world wants to see right now, but we're just trying to do our own thing right now."

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of Outkast, whose members got their start together at an Atlanta-area high school in 1992.

After the 2003 double album "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below," André 3000 and Big Boi

Big Boi on His New Album, Obama’s Pimp Game, and Brazilian Waxes

Big Boi on His New Album, Obama’s Pimp Game, and Brazilian Waxes
Ask most Outkast fans and you’ll hear the same story: The legendary Atlanta hip-hop duo, made up of Antwan "Big Boi" Patton and André "3000" Benjamin, has not released a proper album since 2000's Stankonia (2003's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below might as well be considered each of the rapper's solo debuts, and 2006's Idlewild, well, most would like to pretend that never happened). In the meantime, amid continued "will-Outkast-ever-record-together-again" chatter, Big Boi has successfully struck out on his own — first with 2010's brilliant Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, and now again with his latest LP, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. Vulture talked to him ahead of the December 11 release about Obama's pimp game and Brazilian waxes. The album is titled Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. What's the worst false rumor you've been the victim of?The worst rumor? I guess the Outkast rumors — the whole breakup.

Andre 3000 Reveals Details On Hendrix Film

Andre 3000 Reveals Details On Hendrix Film
New York -- In order to capture his best version of Jimi Hendrix for an upcoming biopic, Andre 3000 said he had to think of him as a regular dude and not a rock star.

"I didn't look at him as an icon because when you're in it, you don't know you're an icon. You don't know you're an icon until another people say you're an icon," the 37-year-old said in an interview Tuesday.

"So I had to take it as a person, you know what I mean? And I just tried to say, `Well, what would Jimi want people to know that they can't get off of YouTube?' And that's how I approached it," he said.

Hendrix died at age 27 in 1970. He was ranked No. 1 on Rolling Stone magazine's greatest guitarists of all-time list. His band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, is known for iconic albums such as "Electric Ladyland" and "Are You Experienced.

It's a rap: hip-hop and Hollywood

The movie industry has never known what to do with rap music. But from Nwa to Odb, the extreme lives of its stars offer epic stories for the big screen

'Are you the one?" asks the trailer. In March last year, the Los Angeles production company Morgan Creek put out an online casting call, seeking an unknown to play the part of "poet … rapper … actor … revolutionary … legend …" Tupac Shakur. Anyone could apply by submitting footage of themselves reading a scene from the script and rapping to one of Shakur's songs. The director is Antoine Fuqua, best known for the movie Training Day, and the movie's producers include Shakur's mother. The casting call received thousands of applications, which makes for some hilarious viewing on YouTube, but the question of who could fill the shoes of one of rap's biggest personalities is indicative of a bigger problem for the movies: that they
