This is what Saving Private Ryan should have been- realistic and brutal. No need to make "anti-war statements"- all you need to do is show the truth about war and the story line will do the rest. As a Retired Army Officer with combat experience, I can assure you that this movie tells it like it is- nobody wins and everybody loses. Also, the "Good versus Bad" mentality goes out the window as Men fight to help and save each other and NOT their Country's ideology. Very few technical errors combined with a focused stroy make for historically accurate and intense entertainment. WARNING: this is not a "relaxing" movie.
