TV Review: ABC’s ‘Expedition Impossible’ Offers Boring Journey

23 June 2011 9:50 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Have all reality shows merely become hybrids of programs that came before? Doesn’t it feel like it? Put two to three former hits in a blender and try and create a new hit. This week’s latest mash-up (and we’ll have another much-more-obnoxious one in a few days) combines elements of “The Amazing Race” and “Survivor” into ABC’s “Expedition Impossible,” another mediocre summer offering.

Television Rating: 1.5/5.0

Mark Burnett has developed a reputation as a reality TV icon. He produced “Survivor,” “The Apprentice,” “The Contender,” “The Voice,” and many, many more. It’s almost impossible that you haven’t seen a show that he had something to do with. He’s become one of the most influential producers in all of television over the last few decades. He often knows exactly how to make the most ridiculous concepts work as escapist entertainment.

History Channel Prepares ‘The Bible’ Miniseries From ‘Survivor’ Producer

25 May 2011 8:39 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Lord have mercy – History Channel is bringing the Bible back. The cable network has ordered The Bible from Survivor producer Mark Burnett.

Burnett has had a string of reality TV victories since Survivor, including The Apprentice and The Contender. He’s also well known as a producer for live award events, like The People’s Choice Awards and the MTV Movie Awards. He’s had his fair share of busts, too – Sarah Palin’s Alaska quickly bombed on TLC, and other reality originals and spinoffs have failed to find an audience.

Lately, Burnett has produced NBC’s surprise hit The Voice and ABC’s Shark Tank, recently reviewed for its third season. He continues to produce Survivor, now in its 22nd season. Yes, really.

History Channel isn’t the first to try the formidable task of cramming thousands of pages of ...

8 Actors Who Could Be Recruited For The Expendables 2

12 March 2011 3:43 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Sylvester Stallone’s great marketing lie managed to pull in worldwide box-office around the $266 million mark for The Expendables last year, thanks mainly to a campaign that proudly exclaimed; ‘The greatest action movie cast ever assembled.’ Of course, upon actually watching the film I was dissapointed to discover (though fully expecting) that the much tooted Arnie/Sly/Bruce scene amounted to little more than an awkward skit shoe-horned into a film that was a disjointed shambles where only Dolph Lundgren (Ma in Chemical Engineering) and Jason Statham (12th place 1992 World Diving Championships) emerged with their charisma in tact.

But thanks to that immense success the inevitable The Expendables sequel has been announced, and it comes tantilisingly close to the news that Arnie is about to reboot his acting career. Can the film finally make good on its promise of assembling the ‘greatest action movie cast’ for more than five minutes? »
