Exclusive: Leslie Bibb Carves Out New Path as Goofball & Producer

12 December 2014 5:56 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Like Reese Witherspoon, Leslie Bibb is taking her career into her own hands as producer of Take Care, her new indie rom-com  written and directed by Sex and the City writer Liz Tuccillo

“That’s really me,” Leslie Bibb tells ETonline of Frannie, the makeup-free goofball seen on screen.

Probably most famous for her two short-lived TV series—Ryan Murphy’s teen soap, Popular, on the now defunct WB network and ABC’s Gcb with Kristen Chenoweth—and her supporting roles in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and the Iron Man franchise, the 41-year-old actress has built a career on playing stunningly beautiful characters with fierce attitudes. But now, she’s letting that all go in favor of a more earnest persona.

“It was scary at times. It was like, ‘Here I am,’ ” Bibb says. Terrified at first, the actress found new personal freedom once she learned not to fight her disheveled appearance. “It was really »

Guardians Of The Galaxy Blu-Ray Review

Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-Ray Review

Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters with surprising force, based on the fact that it is a comic-book film based on characters virtually no one knows, and the Blu-Ray is here to repeat the frenzy. Part space opera, part comic adventure, the film is an unusual hybrid of elements, made all the more interesting by way of characters who aren’t going to be explained, and are themselves rather fantastic.

Catch our podcast review of Guardians of the Galaxy here.

The film introduces us, in rather spectacular fashion, to Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who fancies himself Star Lord, galactic superthief, or something. Having been abducted from Earth as a child, though again, this is a film with little interest in backstory, Peter was raised by the criminals who captured him, and he now finds himself outfitted with some really snazzy tech.

Adam McKay In Talks To Direct A Mystery Marvel Movie

23 October 2014 6:20 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

When asked by CraveOnline if he's talking with Marvel Studios about directing a superhero movie, after helping out on the Ant-Man script rewrites, Adam McKay teased--- "I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with [Marvel] that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on." McKay's film sensibilities are definitely skewed towards comedy, with a long stint directing/writing "Saturday Night Live", and then moving on to hilarious comedic films such as "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Bergandy", "Step Brothers" and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby". Still, don't let that fool you into believing Marvel would only utilize McKay for a comedic film. Remember, prior to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, director sibling duo, The Russo Bros. »

Ranked: Every Summer Movie Season Since 1980 - Part 1

8 September 2014 4:11 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Summer movie season is a magic time of year when Hollywood traditionally rolls out its most appealing merchandise. It’s true that some summer movie seasons are better than others. This is our ranking of all the summer movie seasons since 1980 from worst to best.

On January 20th, 1975, Steven Spielberg and Universal Studios released Jaws. The movie landscape would be forever changed from that date. Jaws is widely credited as being the first blockbuster film because it was the first movie to make over $100 million (non-adjusted). The fact that the film had a meager $8 million budget meant that it was a huge cash cow for the studio and rocketed Spielberg to the the forefront of a new generation of filmmakers for a new era of movie mass-consumption. George Lucas and Spielberg followed up in 1977 with Star Wars, which became a sensational and very profitable hit. It helped to convince production »

Bill Hader’s List of 200 Essential Comedies Everyone Should See

28 August 2014 3:38 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Bill Hader has come a long way since his stint on Saturday Night Live, creating many popular characters and impersonations such as Stefon, Vincent Price and CNN’s Jack Cafferty. He is one of the highlights in such films as Adventureland, Knocked Up, Superbad and Pineapple Express, and so it is easy to see why author Mike Sacks interviewed him for his new book Poking A Dead Frog. In it, Hader talks about his career and he also lists 200 essential movies every comedy writer should see. Xo Jane recently published the list for those of us who haven’t had a chance to read the book yet. There are a ton of great recommendations and plenty I haven’t yet seen, but sadly my favourite comedy of all time isn’t mentioned. That would be Some Like It Hot. Still, it really is a great list with a mix of old and new. »

Begin Again movie review: up tempo

24 July 2014 3:31 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

A hugely satisfying ode to entrepreneurial creativity, and a glorious love letter to New York City and the art it inspires. I love this movie so much. I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

I love this movie so much. Partly for how it demonstrates how little a movie has to deviate from an oh-so-repetitive format to come up with something fresh and exciting but also still comfortable and comforting. And partly for being so radical in a few attitudes while it’s being comfortable and comforting.

I mean, writer-director John Carney — who got famous with Once, and this is even better — only has to switch things up a little bit to upend our expectations about a movie. Like how he first introduces us to English songwriter Gretta (Keira Knightley [Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Anna Karenina], doing her own very »

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are reviving Manimal

23 July 2014 3:42 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will reunite on Manimal.

The Anchorman pair have been announced as producers on the big screen adaptation of the short-lived '80s television show.

The series originally ran for eight episodes in 1983.

Simon MacCorkindale played Dr Jonathan Chase, a man who could shapeshift into different animals, an ability he used to solve crimes.

Ferrell is yet to be confirmed as the film's star, with ComingSoon reporting that it was hinted McKay will not direct.

The actor and writer-director collaborated on Anchorman and its 2013 sequel, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and The Other Guys.

"Like The Catcher in the Rye or The Sound and the Fury, Manimal has always been one of those elusive projects every producer dreams of taking to the silver screen," said McKay.

"I know the movie will be funny and entertaining but will it be the first film to win a Pulitzer? »

Adam McKay & Will Ferrell Reteam to Bring 'Manimal' Back to Life

22 July 2014 11:11 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Some of the best comedies of the past decade have come from director Adam McKay and star Will Ferrell. Their collaborations have included Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (and the sequel), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, The Other Guys and Step Brothers. Now the two are teaming up yet again with an adaptation of the 1980s cult favorite TV show Manimal. However, this time they're mixing things up a bit, because they're working with Sony Pictures Animation on the film following the man who fights crime using his unique ability to morph into animals. The show was canned after eight episodes. But the series found a big cult following, mostly because of the ridiculous nature of the show itself, and now Deadline says Sony Pictures Animation is creating a live-action and animation hybrid that is taking the concept and turning it into an action comedy with "heavy visual effects and animated elements. »

Kristen Wiig Will Go Full Nude in 'Welcome to Me'

16 July 2014 4:32 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Kristen Wiig is known more so for making people laugh than she is for getting naked on screen, but that's all about to change with Welcome to Me, a new dramedy that will see the comedic actress stripping down in front of audiences for the first time.

In the past few years, Kristen Wiig has been quickly transferring her talents into more dramatic roles, with lead parts in Friends with Kids, Girl Most Likely, Hateship Loveship and the upcoming The Skeleton Twins. But Welcome to Me might be her most challenging job yet.

In the movie, she plays Alice Klieg, who suffers from a borderline personality disorder. After winning the lottery, she quits taking her meds and decides to launch her own talk show. It was Eliot Laurence's screenplay that drew her in, and she knew that she had to jump in with both feet.

When it comes to America, the values, the principles, and ideals that we strive for are great. Freedom, liberty, truth, justice, happiness and the right stand up against tyranny are ideas that we can all believe in... but what about the stuff? The tangible things that distinguish this great nation from others are worth taking note of as well. That’s why we’re taking a moment, in honor of our great nation, to say “Thanks” to the movies that celebrate uniquely American cultural artifacts.

Hot Dogs — Father of the Bride

Bread has been around for tens of thousands of years and sausage too has been around for a couple millenia, but it was only in America that a hot dog could be created. And only an American comedy legend like Steve Martin could bring to the big screen the hot dog conundrum that has perplexed us all.
