I saw this movie years ago when it appeared one late night on CBC. It's a great little gem about a woman out to find her father - and who in turn finds herself. The music of Thelonius Monk permeates throughout - not surprising given the movie's title - and made me appreciate Jazz all the more after watching it. The story has some very typical plot elements but the music made up for it. The plot put me in mind of other great British drama's like the Rector's Wife in that the heroine realizes that she doesn't have to 'settle' in life. As she discovers the truth of her origins and the secrets of her family's past, she in turn realizes that there are opportunities in life she had never considered before. Jack Shepherd stars as the errant father - best known from his roll on BBC TV's Wycliffe. Definitely worth a watch if the opportunity presents itself.
