Technically well made, but for me, this crossed the line...
6 March 2009 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

I am sure that this is a movie you'll either hate or you'll love. I can see from the other review that was posted before mine that they loved it--I didn't. It's a very, very, very black comedy about a lady who delights in dating men and when she gets bored with them, she murders them and hacks them to pieces. And, by the end of the film, she's out looking for more potential victims.

It's obvious that people love violence and books, movies and TV shows about serial killers are very popular. So I can certainly understand why they made JEMIMA. While I sometimes like my humor very dark as well, for me this movie just went too far. While the film wasn't super-explicit, having her narrate about how she dismembers them as you see her cutting away (with blood flying and sound effects to match) was too much. It went from the comedic to the sick and voyeuristic. Many like this sort of thing--I just felt it was almost like watching a snuff film. Plus, making murders seem cute and funny just isn't for me--especially since some time back I used to work in the mental health system and worked with murderers and the like. It ain't cute to me--I keep thinking about the victims and their families.

Despite my disliking the film so much, I must give the film makers their due. Technically speaking, it was a very well made and interesting film the way it was constructed. I just hope that next time they pick a less nasty subject, as I am impressed with their skills and would love to see more of their work provided it's toned down a bit.
