It is what it is
18 February 2010 | by (Denmark) – See all my reviews

Of the three that have their own individual pages here on the site, this is the shortest featurette on the double-DVD of Dogville... if one could call it that. What it really is, is a test shot before they entered the production phase on the movie, to determine if the look and style would work out. This has Danish actors in all the parts, and, yeah, not speaking English, though there are subtitles. The acting is reasonable enough, and there definitely are great talents in this. This is put together of several scenes from the finished product(and yes, there are spoilers for it in this picture; do *not* watch this first), and the editing and camera-work are similar to how it ended up, only there are fewer cuts, presumably because they did not get an awful lot of footage, since it was merely an attempt, seeing if it would work. The commentary track on this, by Trier and his cinematographer are well-worth a listen, and probably the best thing about this. There is disturbing content, but otherwise nothing offensive in this short film. I recommend this to those who are curious. 6/10
