Storyline

Dick Remington receives the bump of his hitherto joyous life when he informed Ethel Milton's father that he was considering presenting himself to the Milton family as a son-in-law. Randolph Milton had ideas of his own as to his daughter's future and Dick was thrown bodily from his office. As the time went on, Milton makes arrangements to take his daughter to California. The dread of the separation, however, induces Ethel to assent to Dick's pleadings for an elopement. Everything is planned to a detail, but money opens up a breach in Dick's defense, and his plans are betrayed to Ethel's father and Dick finds himself tied securely to the very ladder. Father, half dragging his reluctant daughter, boards the train for the west. Dick succeeds in freeing himself, and as the California train is leaving, rushes by the gate-keeper and swings on the last car. With father in full charge of Ethel, Dick soon realizes his helplessness, and upon the train's arrival in Plattesville, his home town, he... Written by Moving Picture World synopsis
