Quite Possibly The Best FPS Shooter So Far.
29 July 2004 | by (Scotland) – See all my reviews

I thought it looked good when i saw pictures from it in Games Master magazine. Speaking of which the reviewer for the game said something like "This is better than being stuck on a desert island with Sarah Michelle Gellar!". Well at first i thought "I don't think so pal!", it may be good but it ain't that good. But when i played it, i was hooked, hooked right from the start of it and i was drawn into the world thats on the island. So the guy who stated that when reviewing it, was correct in doing so.

The graphics are stunning to say the least, the detail that went into them is damn good. The level design is something to be proud of as well, there is no pop up, non i could see anyway. The levels take about 20 seconds or so to load, but this is because of the vast area's in them. Some levels are that big that you need to drive to get there, or you will take forever, or may never reach your destination as there are many many dangers out there.

This game is up there with the likes of: Return To Castle Wolfenstein, The Doom Series, Half Life 2, It is as good as or better than them all i say. It does in terms of entertainment, and sheer addiction and of course the biggest and most important element of ANY FPS game = immersion.

There were no boring levels, no moments of boredom what so ever in this game. It's like one giant adrenaline rush when playing it, from levels of war's raging between soldier's and mutations/Trigen's armed with rocket launcher's and Assault Riffle's etc, to tree top levels (which for some reason reminds me of Ewoks) lol.

This game has you at times running around in tense situations, as if it's trying to get you into a panic. So as it can claim your life for being careless in combat. The combat is really tense to say the least, and it is like this for every level in the game.

Storyline, well it is typical big budget Hollywood style of storyline. The music reminds me of movies like, The Rock, Predator (for tense and atmosphere and panic), Rambo and Die-hard (for action).

So basically the game is like a combination of Predator (tension/atmosphere/music), Rambo and Die-hard (action/music), The Rock (for the music).

I for one cant wait on the movie being made of this, i look forward to it. I just thank the Lord that paul w.s anderson isn't linked to the movie version of it. He has a habit of taking a good idea and massacring it till there's nothing left. Plus his script would be as lame as he is "and his movies are". So it's a good idea that he's not linked to this movie.

I look forward to buying the movie on DVD in a year or so, when it comes out, meanwhile i have the game to keep me happy.

Return To Castle Wolfenstein: 10/10. Doom series: 10/10. Half Life 2: 9.5/10. Devastation: 8/10. Far Cry: 10/10. Halo: 8/10.

Well done to everyone involved in the making of the game, as it is a job well done all round. I for one will always like this game, it is truelly one of if not the best FPS games ever.

Rating for the game 10/10. rating for the music in it 10/10. rating for the graphics in it 10/10. rating for the action & tension & atmosphere in it 10/10.
