For every Veronica Mars movie and every Gilmore Girls revival, there are dozens of other shows whose names inevitably come up after the words, “Bring back… !”

PhotosYour Guide to TV’s 50+ Reboots and Revivals: The X-Files, Gilmore Girls, Twin Peaks, Prison Break and More

In fact, just this past weekend at the Atx Television Festival in Austin, Tex., the Ugly Betty reunion panel sparked the hashtag #hulubringbackuglybetty. But does the late ABC series, which wrapped in 2010 with a pretty terrific finale, really need a continuation?

Part of what makes storytelling such a satisfying art form is that it has a beginning, »

The Boss movie review: hooray for girl power (boo for nowhere near enough)

9 June 2016 5:51 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Plays with hierarchies and rivalries of women’s lives that often aren’t seen onscreen, and embraces women as powerful. But it’s just not very funny about it. I’m “biast” (pro): really like Melissa McCarthy

I’m “biast” (con): …but often don’t like her material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

It’s mostly more of the same cold, bitter stew that passes for comedy in Hollywood: lots of slapstick and grossout that theoretically appeals only to children, and lots of crudity and viciousness that is allegedly “adult” humor, which leaves you wondering just who the heck is supposed to be the audience for this. And The Boss also suffers from the genre’s typical unconvincing mix of the silly and the sentimental: it is extraordinarily difficult to pull off a shift in tone from Looney Tunes to Frank Capra, and it »

Best TV Shows to Watch If You're a Crime Drama Junkie

29 May 2016 3:00 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

As a crime drama junkie, you already have a handle on the food pyramid of hearty, nutritiously litigious crime TV: "Criminal Minds" is your dependable grains group, the whole dysfunctional "CSI" family has your fruits covered, and "True Detective" is like a crunchy, dense helping of veggies.

Ok, don't think too much about that analogy. The point is, crime show devotees such as yourself have your bases covered -- you're on that case like Veronica Mars after a double espresso. But like any good detective, you're also voracious and thorough. No need to bust out the fingerprint dust, though, 'cause we've got your back with some outside-the-box crime TV you might be missing out on.

'Fargo' (2014 - )

If you're obsessed with crime, chances are you already love the Coen brothers. And that's the start of why you should watch "Fargo," but not the end of it.

Detective Raimy Sullivan (Peyton List) has always wanted to prove that she is nothing like her father. In 1996, when Raimy was eight years old, NYPD Officer Frank Sullivan (Riley Smith) left Raimy and her mother, Julie (Devin Kelley), behind when he went deep undercover, got corrupted, and got himself killed. Or so the story has always gone. Now, twenty years later, Raimy is stunned when a voice suddenly crackles through her father’s old, long-broken ham radio – it’s Frank, somehow transmitting over the airwaves and through the decades from 1996. They’re both shocked and confused, but Raimy shakes Frank to the core when »

Watch New NBC Show Trailers: 'This Is Us,' 'Timeless,' 'The Good Place'

19 May 2016 12:30 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

NBC ends the current TV season in solid position. The network canceled a few underperforming shows, but on the whole, has a dependable lineup of dramas and comedies.

Still, NBC does need to fill some holes this fall, and to do that, it's turning to veteran producers like Michael Schur ("The Office," "Parks and Recreation"), Eric Kripke ("Supernatural"), and of course, all-star Dick Wolf. The latter is contributing yet another installment in his Chicago series, "Chicago Justice."

Most of NBC's new series do not have trailers, including high-profile projects like a "Taken" TV adaptation and the "Wizard of Oz" reimagining "Emerald City."

Here are the network's three available trailers:

"The Good Place": From Michael Schur, executive producer of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Parks and Recreation" and "The Office," comes a smart, unique new comedy that follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, "House of Lies," "Veronica Mars"), an ordinary woman who, through an extraordinary string of events, »

Review: 'Welcome to Happiness' Is a Feature-Length Supercut of First-Time Filmmaker Mistakes

19 May 2016 8:45 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Bad movies are a dime a dozen, but the truly pitiable ones are few and far between. Oliver Thompson's spellbindingly awful "Welcome to Happiness" isn't much worse than most first features — and, in some respects, it's far more ambitious — but this star-studded mess is the rare film that confronts you with the helplessness of watching someone self-sabotage their own work. Unfocused and unformed in the way that only a rookie effort can be, Thompson's debut is only enjoyable in fits and starts, but most of it is touched with a guilelessness that makes it difficult to hate.  Things begin with promise, as the intriguingly enigmatic opening scene sets the stage for a movie we'll never get to see. Woody, a frustrated children's lit author, played by "Veronica Mars" alum Kyle Gallner, is twiddling his thumbs at home when a young woman he's never met before knocks on his door. »

'The CW' Lists Fall 2016 Schedule: 'Supergirl' Arrives, 'Supernatural' Moves

19 May 2016 6:45 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The CW has a "super" new lineup for Fall 2016-2017, including the arrival of "Supergirl," which appears to be making a smooth transition from CBS on the same night and time, plus "Supernatural" moving once again for Season 12, this time back to Thursdays. The network really wants to keep fans on their toes with that show (which also has new showrunners). Whatever. Fans will follow it wherever it goes, even if it gets traded to CBS like a network fantasy league.

The president of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, issued a statement with the schedule release:

"We have four terrific additions to our schedule next season, and five great anchors at eight o'clock, every night of the week. [...] We are thrilled to have Supergirl on The CW this fall, joining our popular roster of DC heroes. Plus, we have three new series lined up for next season that perfectly fit our brand, »

CW Fall Schedule: ‘Supergirl’ Lands on Monday, ‘No Tomorrow’ Grabs Post-‘Flash’ Slot

Supergirl” will land in its familiar Monday 8 p.m. time slot when the drama relocates from CBS to the CW in the fall.

The DC Comics superhero series will be paired on the night with the third season of CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” in what the network called the union of a woman with superpowers and an “everyday superwoman.” “We think ‘Supergirl’ will give a real boost to ‘Jane the Virgin,’ ” CW chief Mark Pedowitz said.

Meanwhile, new romantic comedy “No Tomorrow” lands the coveted Tuesday 9 p.m. slot behind CW’s highest-rated series, “The Flash.” Pedowitz said the offbeat show about a romance that blooms as the apocalypse draws near “shares with ‘The Flash’ a blue-sky optimism” that made it a good fit for the time slot.

CW has ordered four new dramas for the 2016-17 campaign (see listings below), with three settling onto the fall schedule. “Riverdale, »

It Sounds Like That Dredd Series On Netflix Is Now One Step Closer To Becoming A Reality

2 May 2016 9:15 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Released in 2012, Dredd was an excellent comic book movie which for some reason failed to find an audience. However, like Firefly and Veronica Mars before it, fans have really got behind the Judge Dredd adaptation in the hope of making a sequel a reality. We've been teased with that possibility a number of times over the years, but nothing has ever happened, and it really does seem as if the franchise is dead. Or is it? Talking during his panel Saturday afternoon at Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, star Karl Urban revealed that "conversations are happening" about a Dredd series at either Netflix or Amazon, a sign perhaps that all that fan support has finally begun to pay off.  That's great news on the surface, but if we're being realistic, those talks may not amount to much more than one person asking those online streaming services if they want to make a Dredd series, »

Karl Urban Says He'd Be Down For A 'Dredd' Sequel On Netflix Or Amazon

In the era of the internet, nothing really dies. A TV show that was swiftly cancelled, or a movie that did less than blockbuster numbers might disappear in the short term, but if it appears to have enough of a niche, cult audience that shout loud enough, it’s entirely possible that it’ll come back. It’s why we’ve seen revivals of “Firefly,” “Veronica Mars,” “Arrested Development” and similar shows, and it’s why movies as different as “Anchorman” and “John Wick” got sequels.
