The title was a combination of Crossfire (1982) and Hardball with Chris Matthews (1997). Both shows were spoofed in this program.

Most the dialogue was improvised by the cast. The other guests had no idea that the show was staged and believed that they were appearing on a real public affairs debate program.

The final episode never aired. Guest Jim March of 'Concerned Citizens for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms' threatened to sue claiming he was deceived. Comedy Central decided to pull the episode.
