22 May 2017 12:30 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The Hellboy franchise is going to continue on the big screen, and that has led to a mixture of excitement and sadness among fans. The upcoming R-rated reboot will not be a continuation of the story that Guillermo Del Toro told over the course of two previous installments. Unfortunately, that Hellboy 3 will never see the light of day. But Ron Perlman, who played the character in Del Toro's movies, has finally shared some details, letting us know what Hellboy 3 would have been about.

The actor recently appeared at Motor City Comic Con and was asked about Hellboy 3 during a panel he was on. Via a report from Dread Central, it sounds like Guillermo Del Toro's third Hellboy movie would have given us some closure on his version of the character. Here's what Ron Perlman had to say about it.

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen was announced not even two weeks ago, yet we already have our first promotional art for the upcoming reboot. The film will star Stranger Thing's David Harbour as Mike Mignola's creation, and will be written by Mignola, Andrew Cosby (Eureka), and Christopher Golden (writer of TV movies and two Buffy the Vampire Slayer videogames). The R-rated film will be directed by Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, The Descent), who is touching up the script with Aron Coleite (Heroes, Star Trek: Discovery).

The Devil's in the Details: Close-Up on Guillermo Del Toro's "Hellboy"

19 May 2017 12:20 PM, PDT | MUBI | See recent MUBI news »

Close-Up is a column that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy (2004) is showing on Mubi from May 14 - June 13, 2017 in the United Kingdom. It is hard to imagine a more perfect marriage of director and source material than Guillermo Del Toro with Hellboy. Mike Mignola’s graphic novel series about a demon put to work by the Feds could have been tailor-made for the Mexican fantasy auteur. Hellboy’s panels pit brutish monsters against mad visionaries in dank subterranean crypts, drawing on European folklore and making a fetish of clanking machinery, crumbling ruins and otherworldly magic. Mignola’s primary theme is always the past’s unshakeable hold over the present, the dead’s habit of returning to haunt the living. All of the above are the sort of gothic tropes that have recurred again and again in some form or other throughout Del Toro’s filmography too, »

What Stranger Things Sheriff David Harbour Looks Like as Hellboy

10 May 2017 4:19 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

An R-rated Hellboy reboot is coming, in case you haven't heard. Just months after the often discussed but never made Hellboy 3 was officially canceled, it was revealed that Millennium has plans to make a new Hellboy movie without Guillermo Del Toro directing and without Ron Perlman starring. This time it will be Stranger Things star David Harbour as the titular Dark Horse Comics character. And now we have a good idea of what he may look like as Hellboy.

Artist BossLogic, who very regularly does depictions of actors and actresses as characters they are going to be playing, rumored to be playing, or just as fun bits of fan casting, has done a rendition of David Harbour as Hellboy. His new piece was done for Comicbook.com and gives us a good look at what this new version of the character could look like in Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. »

Hellboy Reboot Starts Shooting This September?

10 May 2017 3:40 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Things are moving very quickly on the upcoming Hellboy reboot. News of this new, R-rated version of the Dark Horse Comics character just broke, but it looks like things are coming together at lightening speed behind-the-scenes. And, if all goes well, the movie will start filming later this year. If that actually happens, we could wind up seeing this new Hellboy movie in theaters next year.

This bit of news comes courtesy of film reporter Borys Kit, who writes for The Hollywood Reporter. So, he isn't just some schlub who heard this from a guy who thinks he might know somebody. He is a solid source for this kind of information. With that said, he is reporting that Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen reboot will ideally start shooting in September, but that isn't a guarantee at this point. Here's what he had to say about it.

'Hellboy' Reboot Touted With New Star and Director

9 May 2017 12:45 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Writer and artist Mike Mignola created the comic book series Hellboy in 1994. The titular character is a red-skinned demon who was summoned from Hell as an infant and raised on Earth. He is gruff, good-humored and extremely strong; he battles dark forces as a member of the Bprd, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Ron Perlman embodied Hellboy when he first came to the big screen in 2004 under the direction of Guillermo del Toro. Four years later, Hellboy II: The Golden Army arrived, again teaming Perlman and del Toro. Both movies were generally well received by critics and audiences alike and the sequel earned more than $160 million at the box office worldwide. Yet neither was a huge, blockbuster success, which meant a third installment was not guaranteed...

‘Hellboy’ Remake: Why Filmmakers Need to Say No to Pointless Reboots

9 May 2017 10:41 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Read between the lines of the news that Millennium Films is developing a “Hellboy” reboot and you’ll find a major diss. Back in January, Guillermo Del Toro asked his Twitter followers if they’d like a third installment of his colorful approach to Mike Mignola’s comic book series; the response was overwhelmingly positive. One month later, Del Toro announced that the sequel would not go forward, but the producers and Millennium had other plans. The studio’s now developing a new “Hellboy” adaptation directed by Neil Marshall (“Descent,” “Game of Thrones”), and speaking to “Stranger Things” detective David Harbour for the leading role. Theoretically, that’s an exciting concept — but it’s also a problematic one.

Hellboy R-Rated Reboot Happening with Stranger Things Sheriff

9 May 2017 8:56 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Ready for some very unexpected but possibly welcome comic book movie news? Just several months after director Guillermo Del Toro declared that the long hoped for Hellboy 3 was officially dead, we now get word that an R-rated reboot of the franchise is in the works. This is not a rumor, mind you, as this news is coming directly from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

The news first broke courtesy of Mike Mignola's Facebook page. The artist and writer declared that an R-rated reboot of Hellboy is currently in the works, with Stranger Things star David Harbour set to play the titular character. The project apparently already has a director as well in the form of Neil Marshall, who is best known for his horror flick The Descent, as well as his work on HBO's Game of Thrones. It was later announced that the movie has the working title Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. »

Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 3: what happened?

9 May 2017 6:28 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Ryan Lambie May 10, 2017

As word emerges of a Hellboy reboot, we look at why we never got director Guillermo del Toro's long hoped-for second sequel...

Few movie projects have toyed with our emotions as brutally as Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 3. Ever since 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army left the story of Big Red open to all kinds of possibilities, it seemed only natural that del Toro and Ron Perlman would return to make at least one more movie. Instead, what followed was a lengthy on-again, off-again saga that generated lots of headlines and social media gossip, but nothing more substantial than that.

A Hellboy remake is in active development according to the original creator Mike Mignola. Mignola took to Facebook to confirm earlier rumours that a new film would be on the way but this time original director Guillermo del Toro will not be directing – that duty will go to none other than The Decent and regular Game Of Thrones director Neil Marshall who will bring a rebooted version which will be R-rated.

Hellboy remake will be R-rated, says series creator Mike Mignola

R-Rated Hellboy Reboot On The Way Starring David Harbour

8 May 2017 7:13 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Though the films never crossed the $100 million mark domestically, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army are fan favorites. Hellboy lovers have been teased with news of Hellboy 3 for years, only to be disappointed time and time again. Months ago, writer/director Guillermo del Toro finally confirmed that Hellboy 3 would never happen, much to everyone's horror. We'll never see Ron Perlman don the sawed-off horns again.

So, I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that now it is even more official that there will be no Hellboy 3 starring Perlman. The good news is there will be more Hellboy... in the form of a reboot. And it will be R-rated! How's that? Any better?

Creator Mike Mignola took to Facebook today to announce the Hellboy reboot, as well as the actor choosen to go red:
