Good Documentary, great footage, but narrator tries too hard to dramatize
snout4life2 October 2006
It's a solid documentary, great archive footage and great interviews (band of brothers style). What I didn't like was the over-the-top dramatization from the narrator. He tried too hard to make it sound as though they are about to die every minute, even though they are obviously still alive to give you first hand accounts. Covering a significant world war II battle with archive footage is dramatic enough on its own.

Also, to the commentator that was wondering whether this documentary would ever be released on DVD. I bought it on DVD the other day, it's called Attack on Japan - The Boys of H Company. 2-DVD special edition with a nice cardboard cover case. It's in dutch but if it's out here it should be out in the states as well.

Great movie, but could have been better presented on IMDb
m_mickelson17 June 2006
I was surprised to see this movie presented on IMDb, but pleasantly so. My thoughts on the movie, for obvious reasons you will read later, are that it is spectacular and a must see for anyone the least bit unclear on what happened during Iwo Jima, and those days in general. My grandfather is one of the 'cast'/'remaining survivors'presented in the film- William D. Nicholas. I understand he is not really an actor, and is indeed much more that that (getting shot twice in enemy territory is a bit rougher), but I was disappointed to see that the IMDb website did not mention his, along with all the other surviving veteran's names, on their 'cast call'. They did indeed make the movie.

Thanks, Billie Nicholas San Jose, CA

Great documentary but not on DVD?????

The best documentary ever made on the World War II battle of Iwo Jima. BUT why isn't it available on DVD anywhere?

Our WWII veterans' experiences must be preserved forever. I understand the Discovery Channel owns the DVD rights? Why isn't it on DVD???? Come on Discovery Channel! I'm not buying anything from you again until you make this available on DVD!

This documentary contains moving interviews with our brave veterans and also features remarkably accurate reenactments. Even the gear worn by the reenactors is accurate.

This program is Extremely well done, even better than the same type programming done by the History Channel. But why hasn't the Discovery Channel put this out on DVD?

It's chance for you to steal some thunder on the History Channel.
