Many assumed the show’s TCA panel would kick off with a Season 2 renewal announcement. Instead, executive producer J. Michael Straczynski told reporters that he’s “still awaiting word” about a pickup, adding, “We’re cautiously optimistic, but, ultimately, it’s Netflix’s call.”

A mysterious beast menaces an upstate New York hamlet in “Dark Was the Night,” a well-crafted horror pic that compensates (at least to a point) for its lack of original ideas with nice atmospherics and judicious restraint. This sophomore directorial feature for indie producer Jack Heller reps an improvement on his first, 2011’s “Enter Nowhere,” though if that three-hander thriller was ultimately overdependent on gimmicky narrative twists, Tyler Hisel’s screenplay here could have used a few more complications. Opening theatrically July 24, simultaneous with VOD and iTunes launch, “Night” should connect with genre fans primarily via home formats, with decent sales prospects in horror-friendly markets.
The prologue shows a logging foreman going to look for two men who failed to clock out at quitting time, only to meet the same violent (but as yet murky) fate they did. Then we move 90 miles south to Maiden Woods, a rural burg where precious little happens, »

We begin tonight’s Mistresses recap with a trip back to 1987 — when Murder, She Wrote and Moonlighting ranked among the Top 10 network shows, Fatal Attraction burned up the box office and the lilting voice of Suzanne Vega dominated radio for a minute. How did that song go, again?

Those of you who caught Marvel's latest blockbuster Ant-Man will have been introduced to classic comic book character The Wasp for the first time.
Though the original character Janet van Dyne was only glimpsed briefly in flashback (and teased with Evangeline Lilly in the post-credits scene), director Peyton Reed has made it pretty clear that the character is still alive in the quantum realm.
But who could play Janet in future McU movies? Michael Douglas has already made the case for Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role, and now Evangeline Lilly (who plays Janet's daughter Hope) has thrown a new name into the mix.
"That was my favourite of all time of all the comic book female characters, but Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Not just anybody or anything, »

Patricia Richardson’s challenge to SAG-aftra president Ken Howard has attracted endorsements from Elliot Gould, Valerie Harper, Ed Harris, Robert Hays, Amy Madigan, Ken McCord, Nick Nolte, Martin Sheen and Nancy Sinatra.
About 140,000 ballots went out this week to the SAG-aftra membership, with results due to be tabulated on Aug. 20. Richardson, best known as Tim Allen’s co-star on “Home Improvement,” announced her candidacy on June 25 as head of the self-styled progressive Membership First slate.

He announced June 1 that he would seek re-election with Jenny O’Hara as his running mate for secretary-treasurer.

A review of tonight's "Masters of Sex" coming up just as soon as I have an appointment with a travel agent... As I said last week, I'm going to tinker with the format of the weekly reviews for this show, since some weeks I have an essay in me, while others I just have a bunch of random observations. This is one of the latter, so let's hit it: * On Friday, The Hollywood Reporter ran an interview with Michelle Ashford discussing, among other things, the new disclaimer at the end of each episode about the TV show's kids being wholly fictional. She's not allowed to discuss much, but said that "certain things that had to be done in our storytelling that had to do with legal issues." On the family front, this episode gets even deeper into fictionalizing things, since Virginia didn't have a third, late-in-life child, nor did she »
