Partisan wins for WB's new 'Jack'

16 September 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Teens and young women voted for Jack & Bobby, but otherwise the new WB Network drama pulled in underwhelming Nielsen numbers in its debut Sunday. Jack & Bobby, a coming-of-age drama about the boyhood of a future president, has earned some of the strongest critical appraisals of any new fall series, but it averaged only 4.7 million viewers in the 9 p.m. hour, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Jack & Bobby was down in viewers from its lead-in, the season premiere of Charmed (5.3 million), and it came in under the opening-night numbers in the same time slot last fall for the WB's short-lived Tarzan. The drama also slipped from Charmed's lead-in in adults 18-34 and other young demos. »

WB Network ups Grasso to senior vp

11 August 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Maria Grasso has been promoted to senior vp drama development at the WB Network. Grasso, who was vp drama development, has been instrumental in developing such WB series as Everwood, One Tree Hill and Summerland as well as the upcoming drama series Jack & Bobby, which premieres Sept. 12, and The Mountain, which bows Sept. 22. She also is a programming executive on Everwood, Jack & Bobby and One Tree Hill. "I've known and admired Maria for over a decade now, and I'm tremendously impressed with how much she brings to the network as both a top development executive and someone talented enough to shepherd her series development through their first few seasons on the air," said David Janollari, president of entertainment at the network. »

'Jack & Bobby' makes AOL first

27 July 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

An intriguing promotional agreement between America Online's AOL Television, the WB Network and Warner Bros. Television will enable AOL for Broadband subscribers to watch the premiere episode of Jack & Bobby before it airs Sept. 12. The initiative marks the first time a network program has been available online before its broadcast premiere, according to the partners. The episode will be commercial-free, on-demand and viewable in the subscriber's choice of segments or uninterrupted from beginning to end. Suzanne Kolb, executive vp marketing at the WB, said showing the "exceptional program" in this unusual way would stimulate word-of-mouth. "In a crowded environment, we have to be aggressive in finding ways to get our shows sampled, and this is definitely aggressive," she said. »
