Longoria Hits Back at Traffic Cop

29 December 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is planning to file charges against the Texas traffic cop who cited her and boyfriend Tony Parker on Christmas Eve. The actress claims the police officer acted badly when he pulled her and Parker over for impeding traffic in her home state. The cop is currently under investigation for misconduct. The officer left Longoria outraged when he accused her of making derogatory racial comments about him. The incident failed to ruin Longoria's Christmas - she was in Detroit, Michigan for basketball beau Parker's Christmas Day San Antonio Spurs game against the Detroit Pistons. »

Longoria and Parker Involved in Traffic Incident

28 December 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Eva Longoria's basketball star boyfriend Tony Parker was cited for impeding traffic and failing to produce a valid driving license in an incident which also allegedly saw the Desperate Housewives actress verbally abuse a police officer. According to the Texas traffic cop concerned, at circa 12:45am on Saturday he spotted a car that was impeding traffic, which he tapped on the hood when it didn't move on. The officer says Parker then asked why he touched the car before Longoria and the San Antonio Spurs player were said to have started "screaming in a verbally abusive and demeaning manner." Parker then reportedly started driving away and nearly struck a man nearby. He was asked to exit the car, and produced a French driver's license before cops say he commented, "This is all the cops do, just mess with people." The officer involved says Longoria then shouted, "He's just a Mexican bike cop. He only wants your autograph." In a statement, Longoria describes the police report as "highly inaccurate" and says, "It's a shame that one officer conducted himself in such an inappropriate and disorderly manner. I never made any sort of racial slurs, let alone made any comments about the officer being Mexican, as a Mexican myself." »

Hit U.S. shows fuel rivals within Canadian television

22 December 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

TORONTO -- Such American hit TV series as Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy and Lost help make up a CTV ratings arsenal that will be front and center in its clash with a rival Canadian broadcast titan in 2006. CanWest Media is marshaling its own U.S. hits including My Name Is Earl as well as hit reality shows in a bid to oust CTV as the ratings leader. CTV's continuing dominance is forcing CanWest Media Works, which ruled Canadian primetime during the 1990s on the strength of such NBC hits as Seinfeld and Friends, to play catch-up. Last month, CTV had seven of the top 10 and 13 of the top 20 programs in the 18-34 demographic, according to Nielsen Media Research. »

Hatcher Accepts Damages Over "Passion Wagon" Reports

19 December 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher has triumphed in her legal battle with British newspaper The Daily Sport, accepting "very substantial" libel damages in London's High Court Friday. The Hollywood star, 40, filed suit against the Manchester, England-based tabloid last month after they "falsely alleged that she engages in sex romps on a regular basis with a series of men in a Volkswagen van parked outside her LA home for this purpose," leaving her young daughter Emerson unsupervised at home. Her lawyer Simon Smith told Judge Justice Tugendhat, "The grossly defamatory allegations are entirely false, deeply offensive and utterly without foundation." The Daily Sport has agreed to publish a front-page apology over the report, which appeared in the newspaper on July 25 and August 3. Smith adds, "As a mark of its regret, the defendant has since agreed to publish a prominent front-page apology and to enter into this statement to unequivocally apologize for the deep distress and acute embarrassment caused by its allegations, which it acknowledges were completely false. The defendant has also agreed to pay very substantial damages to the claimant for the libel and to reimburse the claimant's legal costs in full." The Sport said they had received the "interview" from a "trusted" source, but had now realized the claims were totally false. A statement from Hatcher says, "But when a story appeared about me, insinuating that I am an irresponsible and neglectful parent, I had to draw the line. I will never allow any tabloid to so egregiously attack the area of my life which I give top priority, and that is my parenting." Hatcher accepted an apology from US tabloid National Enquirer Thursday after they published a similar story from a "world exclusive" interview with journalist Patricia Nolan. »

Enquirer Apologizes to Hatcher Over Van Story

16 December 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

US tabloid the National Enquirer has become the first publication to issue an apology to Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher for printing an extract from an interview editors believe never took place. Hatcher has sent her lawyers after publications who alleged she has sex sessions in the camper van that sits in her driveway, while her young daughter Emerson plays alone yards away in the family home. The actress has fiercely denied making the comments about her sex life and plans to sue the British publication which first ran the story. But Enquirer editors have decided to honor Hatcher by printing an apology in the new issue of the tabloid and naming and shaming the freelance journalist who sold them the alleged interview. In a printed statement, the publication's bosses claim, "We believe that the purported 'world exclusive' interview by Patricia Nolan was fabricated and the story was false. Therefore, we withdraw and retract the statements in that article. In particular, Ms. Hatcher has never engaged in sexual relations with men in a van parked on her property, nor does she leave her child alone in her house while having 'steamy romps' with men in a 'passion wagon'. Ms Hatcher only uses her van for camping trips with her daughter." »

Desperate Housewives stars Doug Savant and Felicity Huffman are set for an interesting double date with their real-life partners on the hit show. Huffman's real-life husband William H. Macy has been hoping for a part on the series for some time and now it looks like he'll be able to face his wife across a dinner table - with her onscreen husband's real wife Laura Leighton sitting next to him. Savant says, "Marc Cherry (show creator/executive producer) wants Felicity and I to go out with another couple and that couple would be Bill Macy and Laura Leighton, my real-life wife. We'll have to wait and see if it happens, but it would be a blast." »

Hatcher Explains Decision To Sue UK Tabloid

12 December 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Teri Hatcher decided to sue over a report that she had sex with men in her van when she learned that she was accused of leaving her daughter unsupervised during the alleged romps. While the Desperate Housewives star was upset by a British tabloid's claims that she regularly romped with men in the vehicle in front of her Los Angeles home, she was infuriated when she heard that she'd supposedly left her eight-year-old daughter Emerson all alone during the sessions. She says, "I like to think I bite the celebrity bullet and I sort of put up with the gazillion things they say that aren't true. But for me, in this particular area, it wasn't just that they said I had sex in my van - which is bad enough - they said that I left my daughter alone in the house, unsupervised, to go have sex in the car and that I do this all the time. To me, that's parental neglect and I've made it very clear that being a parent is the absolute number one priority in my life." She adds, "I think there's plenty of salacious, true things you could say about people in Hollywood. You don't have to make it up." »

Nicollette Sheridan's split from her former fiance Niklas Soderblom appears to have turned nasty, with the actress being accused of threatening to slap her ex with a restraining order. Soderblom, whose romance with Sheridan came to an end earlier this year, reportedly told a Swedish publication that the Desperate Housewives beauty made the threat after they ran into each other in Malibu, California, on November 27. A source says, "Nicollette started yelling, 'Get away from me!'" Soderblom is quoted as saying, "I don't understand it." Representatives for Sheridan have refused to comment. »

Sunday night sinners outshine CBS' 'Pope'

5 December 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

The story of a man who is on a fast track to sainthood was no match for the sinners of Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy on Sunday. The first half of CBS' Pope John Paul II miniseries fizzled on Sunday, drawing only about 8.3 million viewers from 9:30-11:30, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. CBS' lineup was thrown off its regular start times by a roughly half-hour football overrun at the start of primetime, but preliminary estimates indicate a weak turnout that barely registered on the adults 18-49 demo radar. CBS' numbers were only slightly better than the unimpressive showing ABC had on Thursday with its papal biopic Have No Fear: The Life of Pope John Paul II. »

Lead-ins boost KABC in L.A. news

2 December 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

The frisky suburbanites of Desperate Housewives and medical residents of Grey's Anatomy were very, very good to KABC-TV Los Angeles during the November sweep. KABC pulled into a tie with KNBC-TV Los Angeles for No. 1 in the lucrative 11 p.m. news race in the adults for the first time in 12 years during the sweep, which wrapped Wednesday. On a Monday-Sunday basis, KABC is tied with KNBC for glory in the key adults 25-54 news demo with a 2.3 rating, with KABC drawing a 9 share in that demo vs. KNBC's 8 share. However, on a Monday-Friday basis, KNBC's 11 p.m. newscast averaged a 2.5/9 in adults 25-54, compared with a 2.1/8 for KABC, which underscores the value of the lead-in oomph ABC's Sunday night powerhouses Housewives and Grey's provide to KABC's late newscast. As was the case last November, KCBS no longer is an also-ran in the late news derby, tying KABC for No. 2 in adults 25-54 on a Monday-Friday basis (2.1/8) and running second to KABC and KNBC in the Monday-Sunday rankings (2.0/7). »

ABC wins Sunday; 'Cold' warms up CBS

28 November 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

ABC won the Sunday night sweepstakes as usual, but CBS was hotter than usual thanks to Cold Case. The eye network's 8 p.m. drama scored its highest marks of the season, pulling in 19.2 million viewers and 4.4 rating/10 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Cold Case soared from its 60 Minutes (14.3 million, 2.8/7) lead-in to peak in its second half-hour at 19.9 million viewers and 4.8/11 in the demo. At 9 p.m., CBS' holiday-themed original telepic Silver Bells (16.2 million, 3.7/8) did respectable business against the white-hot glare of ABC's Desperate Housewives (25.7 million, 11.1/23) and Grey's Anatomy (19.8 million, 9.0/21). ABC opened the night with a two-part Extreme Makeover: Home Edition that started modestly at 7 p.m. (10 million, 3.7/10) and opened up a big lead in 18-49 at 8 p.m. (16 million, 6.5/15), though Cold Case still won that hour in viewers. »

Actress Teri Hatcher has filed a libel lawsuit against a British tabloid newspaper after it claimed she had sex with men in a van outside her Los Angeles home. The 40-year-old Desperate Housewives star has instructed her London legal team to begin proceedings against the Daily Sport over an article which "falsely alleged that she engages in sex romps on a regular basis with a series of men in a VW van parked outside her LA home for this purpose." Law firm Schillings claim Hatcher "bitterly refutes these offensive allegations" which "were repeated extensively elsewhere in many countries." Huffman Reveals Eating Disorder Hell

23 November 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman has revealed she suffered from eating disorders throughout her late teens in a desperate bid to look perfect. The actress admits she eventually called on the help of a family therapist when her weight plunged to just 98 pounds in her early 20s, and she never imagined she'd become one of the sexiest women on TV. She says, "I was bulimic and anorexic for a while, just hating my body. As an actress, I was never thin enough, never pretty enough. My boobs weren't big enough." Huffman credits having two kids and turning 40 for helping her to come to terms with her body at last. She adds, "I think I've always had a 40-year-old body, and now that I'm actually there I'm like, 'Hey, pretty good.'" But the actress insists her past eating disorders and dissatisfactions have had their use - in helping her prepare for acting roles, like in sex-change movie Transamerica. She explains, "The self-loathing that goes along with bulimia or anorexia helped me understand (character) Bree's internal journey." »

Morning after, NBC's 'Poseidon' neither sinks nor swims

21 November 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

It didn't sink, but it didn't really float, either. NBC's three-hour remake of the 1972 ocean-liner disaster flick The Poseidon Adventure sailed off with 9.6 million viewers and 3.1 rating/7 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. The telepic, starring Adam Baldwin, Rutger Hauer and Steve Guttenberg, peaked from 10-10:30 p.m. at 10 million viewers and 3.4/8 in the demo. The big Kahuna of the night, of course, was ABC's lethal combo of 9 p.m.'s Desperate Housewives, (26 million, 11.0/24) and 10 p.m.'s Grey's Anatomy (20.8 million, 9.5/23), the latter of which hit its highest marks of the season to date. And 8 p.m.'s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (17.5 million, 6.7/16) was no slouch for ABC either. »

Longoria Pokes Fun at Cover Shoot

21 November 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Eva Longoria poked fun at the infamous Desperate Housewives Vanity Fair cover shoot spat on America's Saturday Night Live on Saturday by playing a scene-stealing Teri Hatcher. Longoria recalled the photo shoot, which turned disastrous when Hatcher allegedly started sobbing when her cast mates insisted she wasn't positioned to look like the star of the show. And while SNL regular Rachel Dratch played Longoria, the lovely Latina played Hatcher, who was always vying to stand in the centre of the group shot. The hilarious skit also poked fun at fellow Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan's manly qualities - she was played by comedian Seth Meyers and refused to sit in the front of the shot for fear of revealing her "package." The spoof shoot turned chaotic when a publicist revealed that Longoria couldn't sit next to Felicity Huffman because Huffman was allergic to her perfume and Hatcher couldn't stand next to Marcia Cross because the actress feared her head looked too small compared to Cross'. Longoria's debut as an SNL host was a big hit - she also played a mohican-haired dance music star called Ms. Drama Martinez; Helga Englehart, the leader of a German oompah band; a character in R Kelly's "In The Closet" video; and she recreated beloved TV star Lucille Ball for a Thanksgiving Day special spoof. »
